Been captivating the last 2 nights following court proceedings posted by a number of the journo's inside court
Defence absolutely hammered Botha last night. He was made to look stupid and inept and was quite nervous in the end
Would think that OP will get bail based on yesterday but will be following it closely anyway
It may well be the same gated community that I stayed in , in 2010 although I don't think so judging by the distance to OP'S neighbour

First Tiger Woods, then Lance Armstrong, and now Oscar Pistorius. I think Nike should start telling their athletes "Don't Do It" Edited by neillucas: 21/2/2013 09:38:37 AM

Pistorius claims he shot her through the locked toilet door then used the cricket bat to smash it open when he realised it was her in there. I don't believe him but I think it'll be hard to prove beyond all reasonable doubt that his story is wrong That was the story I heard today. And I was thinking "Exactly how stupid do you have to be...?" Yeah, his whole statement was released and like Scoll said a few posts earlier it doesn't really add up. In another report it said the ballistics apparently showed that he deliberately aimed shots at the toilet, that if he'd just walked at the bathroom door and shot like he claimed then he would've missed her

Quote:Murder suspect Oscar Pistorius facing further guns charges while court hears evidence of fatal night Killing suspect Oscar Pistorius is a flight risk and should not be granted bail, South African police argued in court Wednesday. Pistorius is charged with premeditated murder for the Valentine's Day shooting death of girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp with a 9mm pistol. Pistorius asserted in a court affidavit Tuesday that the shooting was accidental and he thought the model was an intruder in his home. Police officer Hilton Botha alleged in the star athlete's bail hearing Wednesday that Pistorius illegally possessed .38-caliber ammunition in a safe in his bedroom. The policeman testified that Pistorius did not have a license for a .38-caliber weapon and consequently possession of that ammunition was illegal. The detective said that all Pistorius would say after the shooting was "he thought it was a burglar.'' Botha also said a witness told police he heard gunshots, a woman screaming and then more shots on the night Steenkamp was gunned down. However, Pistorius' defence team then went on the attack during cross-examination, which revealed the witness was 600m away. Botha told the court he arrived at Pistorius's luxury home in Pretoria at 4.15am to find the athlete's girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, lying dead at the bottom of the stairs "wearing shorts and covered in towels". In other evidence, Botha told the court that Pistorius had threatened a man at a race-track "over a girl" and said he would "f--- him up." The investigating officer said the man was so scared by Pistorius's alleged threats, he consulted a lawyer. In an additional revelation Wednesday, police said they found two boxes of testosterone and needles in the Pistorius' bedroom. Pistorius' defense lawyer, Barry Roux, said the substance found in the bedroom was a "herbal remedy'' not a steroid and not a banned substance. Prosecutor Gerrie Nel said police are not saying that Pistorius used the substance, simply that it was found in his bedroom. Earlier, Nel told the court the prosecution team had a witness who had heard non-stop shouting coming from Pistorius's luxury home on the night Steenkamp was gunned down, between 2am and 3am. Pistorius became the first Paralympian runner to compete at the Olympic Games in London last year. Pistorius, 26, has insisted he shot the 29-year-old Steenkamp by mistake, fearing there was an intruder in his gated and guarded luxury complex in the capital, Pretoria. http://www.foxsports.com.au/other-sports/murder-suspect-oscar-pistorius-facing-further-guns-charges-while-court-hears-evidence-of-fatal-night/story-e6frf56c-1226582270574#.USTLq6UwpFU

Going to be OJ all over again. Don't buy his story, seems too implausible (how can you be aware enough to remember that maintenance left ladders outside but not notice your girlfriend was not lying next to you?) but don't think the prosecution will be able to prove their case beyond reasonable doubt.

So many facets of the story seem to differ or contrast on particular details which makes it hard to draw a picture of what actually happened imo, that being said I know it's innocent until proven guilty but he's going to have a tough time of it.

afromanGT wrote:They must have a pretty open and shut case if they're playing for premeditation. I saw in the paper that the prosecutors said it doesn't need months of planning to be premeditated, that even if he thought it was a burglar, he shot with the intention of killing and that can classify as premeditated. sydneycroatia58 wrote: Apparently he attacked her with a cricket bat and shot her in the hip, she locked herself in the bathroom and he shot her through the door.

I mean...something like this (a trial with global attention), they wouldn't want to risk a mistrial because some idiot tainted the jury pool.

premeditated murder:shock: Quote:Oscar Pistorius weeps as court hears murder charge South African Olympic and Paralympic star Oscar Pistorius wept in court as prosecutors said they would pursue a "premeditated murder" charge over the death of his girlfriend. Model Reeva Steenkamp was shot dead at his home near Pretoria on Thursday. Mr Pistorius held his head in his hands and broke down in tears as the charge was read out in the magistrates' court. An application for bail was postponed until next Tuesday and Mr Pistorius, 26, will remain in police custody. Family members reached forward to touch his shoulder as he stood and left the courtroom in Pretoria. Dozens of reporters were also in court, where chief magistrate Desmond Nair was presiding. The BBC's Andrew Harding, in court, says the defendant cut a lonely figure, holding his head forward and breathing heavily through tears. Prosecutor Gerrie Nel argued for a "premeditated murder" charge. Mr Pistorius slumped forward at the mention of the words. Media access was discussed and the magistrate ruled that there should be no live recording for the bail hearings. Mr Pistorius's team had argued against such coverage and cited his "extremely traumatised state of mind". Both prosecution and defence agreed Mr Pistorius could remain in custody at a police station and not in prison. Members of Mr Pistorius's family, including sister Aimee, brother Carl and father Henke, were in the courtroom. Mr Pistorius had earlier arrived at court in the back of a police vehicle, hiding his face with a jacket and notebook. Forensic experts are expected to continue examining the house in the upmarket Silver Woods gated community on the outskirts of South Africa's administrative capital where Ms Steenkamp, 29, died. Correspondents say the athlete's arrest has stunned the country where he is considered a national hero. He made history in London last year when he became the first double-amputee track athlete to compete in the Olympic Games. He is known as the "blade runner" because of the carbon fibre prosthetic blades he races in. He was born without a fibula in both legs and had his legs amputated below the knee before his first birthday. Police were called to his home in the early hours of Thursday morning. They found paramedics treating a 29-year-old woman with four gunshot wounds to the head and upper body. She died at the scene, and officers recovered a 9mm pistol. A post-mortem examination is being carried out on Friday but the results will not be made public, police said. Mr Pistorius and Ms Steenkamp had reportedly been dating since November. Mr Pistorius dominated in his category at successive Paralympic Games, but in 2008 he won a legal battle over his blades - which critics said gave him an unfair advantage - with the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) for the right to compete in able-bodied competitions. He reached the 400m semi-finals in the London 2012 Olympics. At the Paralympics he won silver in the T44 200m, gold in the 4x100 relay and gold in the T44 400m, setting a Paralympic record. South Africa has one of the highest rates of crime in the world and many residents keep weapons to protect themselves against intruders. But gun ownership is strictly regulated and it is not easy to obtain a licence. map http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-21467359

Oh wow...this was doomed to happen. Shakespeare couldn't write a better comedy of errors.
