What a slap in the face for Townsville. Is that the 4 mill from the Fed Government? Either way, it's our money.

Get the FFA out of Sydney ASAP. Good god, the ignorace is strong with this one... The FFA don't own WSW, they fund it. Otherwise the club would be the opposite it is now.. And FFS the concessions to the teams are availible to all. Bloody perth can apply for salary cap help...its just nobody uses it except SFC at the moment...

Would be great for heart, they should go for him and get FFA to help out. Offer him 100k and get FFA to pay half. Good deal for all parties.

Oh you are so right neverwozza, I've never seen him, nor the 'roos, live, not the Socceroos anyway. But yeah, was tempted to say 'strong on the ball' but my short memory fails me, as it was so long ago I last saw him play! But sounds right and again, that's probably, partly, why he was so effective when he was utilised to fill in for Kennedy, in that lone striker role. I remember, notably, our passing play improved as our defenders and midfielders were kind of forced or encouraged atleast, to play along the ground more, knowing hoofing it wouldn't do much good. He's not so light framed either, not these days, if anything, talk of his 'fitness' came up during his Victory stint and again, fitness THE issue, as always for all players, especially with his long lay off now. He doesn't have the speed of younger days, but is certainly a stronger player. But anyway, good point yeah. His joining Wanderers and Poppa's regime may help dispel his off-field rep too. Esp if it's a good end to his career. As he said, he couldn't help that family issues came up, that's only fair and I understand that. Victory fans should too, it's hardly anything sinister, two-faced or what not. Even when he 'initially left' we always knew he was going to 'come back' at some point and now he may be. BTW You can forget the Mariners, re: Arnie - Anyone remember that Cockerill-Kewell leak fiasco circa the 2010 World Cup? Everyone was wondering WHO Cockerill's source was and the hot tip, all roads, lead to one - Arnie, the guy who was in his last hurrah in regards to his NT gig. Arnie is mates with Slater too and Slater utilised 'his intel' with his attack/s on Kewell around a similar time too. Intel = likely his mate, Arnie, again. I don't know if Kewell has 'buried the hatchet' with some of these guys - But his interview with Cockerill was pretty fiesty I hear (Never saw it) and it wouldn't surprise me if he somehow HASN'T buried the hatchet with Arnie and Slats - Especially given how 'bull headed' the latter two are, especially? Kewell obviously has his pride too. De-Jong wrote:It's amazing how we treat our superstar players, one minute there great cannot say enough . Then all sort of rubbish.????
But then that's what we do here in Australia. Yeah, 'Tall Poppy Syndrome' though same accusations were made during both the Cockerill and Slater scenarios. And they countered and even in their articles were arguing, just because Kewell is a star, our greatest, he shouldn't be beyond criticism either - he has his faults. Kewell responded, against character, but Kewell argued their 'attacks' has crossed the line or some such. I guess it's where the line draws, though most of us can see it. Both Slater and Cockerill were suggesting he was a negative influence, disrupting harmony and maybe should end his NT career earlier or some such - Infact Cockerill quoted an un-named team member reportedly telling Kewell something of the sort! So you can understand if any player is sensitive, reacts to that - to defend himself, especially if 'the truth/real story' is twisted a bit or more than a bit? But in regards to fans, fan reactions - we lot are a fickle bunch, that's a given! Edited by Gloryperth: 21/2/2013 06:03:52 AM

Might have something to do with at one point being the most marketable and greatest ever Australian football player of all time. Even in his late years for the Socceroos despite losing a bitta pace, he was still very consistently good for us. I definitely think they should push for it. I ask because WSW seems like a tight group, performing well, presenting well in the community... as Harry showed last year at MVFC, there's the possibility of him being more disruptive than the positives that he brings. Fair enough. Just wondering, dare I say, he could be a straight swap, replace for, Kresinger? According to fans here etc... If Wanderers do have a weaker area it's Kresinger, though with the Wanderers' more recent upswing in results I'm sure he's contributed to that aswell. But, Bridge, Hersi, Ono, Mooy and co playing off a Kewell, upfront, playing upfront not unlike he occasionally did with the NT in recent years - Kewell can be a decent holding striker, despite his size, given his technique, ability to draw fouls and interplay with team mates and ofcourse, his great striking/finishing ability and poise. Wanderers already play pretty good football, but with Kewell upfront, they might be even better? Kewell may draw more attention too, so even more space for Hersi, Bridge and Ono? Though given how Wanderers play - Kewell will need to be fit, up to speed, to be closing down defenders with higher pressing of the opposition's defenders. But either way - with how long he's been out of football, it will be a number of weeks before he sees any significant game time anyway. But better he joins a club now than later, as this late season period can function as extended pre-season and team gelling leading into the 2013-14 period, where he can REALLY shine with a last ditch attempt to crack that World Cup squad (SHOULD we qualify, ofcourse)! Edited by Gloryperth: 20/2/2013 02:33:00 AM I don't know if you got to see him live or not but when he came to bluetongue I was a bit suprised as to how big he was plus he was virtually impossible to knock off the ball. Would be a great fit for WS and although he would be on reduced training programme (as are McBreen and Dutchie at our club) Poppa definitely wouldnt be copping any of the circus bullshit.

If it was to be his last move, I can't see it playing out like it did in Melbourne. He was never going to stay at Melbourne, he always had another move or two after that. Not every Western Sydney player is going to be there next season, players will need to be brought in, it would be stupid not to try and get Kewell.
