Adding to as EG mentioned ultras are often associated with negative things Edited by aufc_ole: 12/11/2013 06:37:51 PM

Why call yourself bad? Unless they're taking the piss (which I highly doubt they are). Notoriety. But why? Why does it have to be negative?

Why call yourself bad? Unless they're taking the piss (which I highly doubt they are). Because the name "the good guys" was taken.

It's to intimidate opposition. You come to another teams home ground you're up against 11 men and their mental supporters. No one likes to be boring.

It's not my direct translation, it's from one of the firm sites. If your whole intent is intimidation and sounding like a criminal, why not go with "The Axe Murderers" or "The serial rapists" - y'know, instead of sounding like petulant 18 year olds?

Maybe it's because they aren't serial rapists, or axe murderers ??? Maybe it's because they're bad ???
Could be as simple as that.
Also, don't be marred by the direct translation. "Kids" when used in that context could be SIMILER to our word "punks" ???
Edited by sobkowski: 12/11/2013 10:34:25 PM I think I suggested this earlier. Afro back to your wannabe Scouse corner. You're a douche.

Yeah, I get that it's a name but obviously it's very colloquial if a chick who speaks fluent french and grew up in Paris has never heard of it.

Yeah, I get that it's a name but obviously it's very colloquial if a chick who speaks fluent french and grew up in Paris has never heard of it. I have studied french since year 7 and am in 3rd year advance french at uni. I haven't heard of it but there are explanations for the name. It could be an english word that sounds similar to a French word. It could be a part of a group of words that make another word. For example, for my french literature class there were a group of writers that made some indie writing group that used the first two letters of three words. Or It could be something completely personal.

Edited by melbourne_terrace: 13/11/2013 05:56:49 AM In the context of Australian football, I'm sure as hell not the outlier. The thug approach might not damage the game overseas, but it damages our game here, which is why to this day I cannot understand why anyone who 'loves football' in Australia would go out of their way to look and act like a thug at the football.

Whilst I love active support and what it brings, I hate that many groups aim to look like thugs. That's not how you grow our game in Australia.
