Thanks for feedback those months before guys. Hmm consensus seems 'he has the cattle' but it's his tactics and man management lacking?

Exactly. I don't see the point in seeing out another offseason with him, when you're almost definately going to be replacing him a few weeks in anyway. Dumb move on HSGs behalf IMO

Yep seems very bizarre.

Can only agree.

BTW Are Ray Baartz, Cheryl Salisbury and co still there, in their capacity as Advisory Board Members, or was it Advisory Committee?

You'd think the likes of those folk would be ideal to help oversee and review the coaching position and too wider performance levels of the team? HSG should be consulting them, on-going process, and if their advice is indeed that 'things aren't tracking well' then HSG have all the advice they need to take action?

But I fear, I hope I remember wrong, that Baartz or somebody had left their post? Or there was some kind of cost cutting and their positions scrapped?! I really hope I'm wrong there!

The Jets have a poor squad so even if they replace GVE it is going to be hard for them to do much this season.

don't have any confirmation from my sources on any of that tbh, apart from the heskey bit which i put in here months ago

But there's another piece to the rumour now (was posted on nf.net):

They've lined up Brian Brown (coach of Bonnyrigg White Eagles) to replace him.

There's also word going around that the players will throw the first few games in order to make this happen on purpose. Also a very faint rumour I've heard that Heskey isn't actually injured as bad as he's saying, but doesn't want to play again until GVE is gone (I posted somewhere else that Heskey apparently re-signed under the assurance that GVE wouldn't be the manager again).

So yeah, all rumours but fun ones. We can only hope they're true - although I'm still unaware as to why HSG didn't just sack him at the end of last season rather than make it another rebuilding year

The first 6-8 games is standard, the norm and fair enough. Results weren't convincing last season, this is his second/final chance? Nothing unreasonable about that, it's even logical.

But the rest, as RedKat has said, that's just f*d up.

Heskey is being made to look like one, big, prima donna, or actually, more, sht stirrer? Let's hope this isn't all true as it sheds a very negative light on all the positives we hoped from these kinds of big-name marquee arrivals (This case, the 'faces of the A-League' or it's last season launch, the triumvirate of ADP, Ono and Heskey!).

i have word from "insider knowledge" that GVE is confirmed to be leaving the jerks at the end of the season. the club made the move happen, but are going to allow him to save face & say he's leaving for greener pastures - plus they saw no point in pushing him away so close to the end of the season. apparently the player group are aware this is happening.

no link-able source, but it was the same source who got me onto the news of jobe leaving & rubez re-signing as captain, so take from it what you will.

This makes no, logical, sense?! So he's THEN a 'lame duck' coach for the entire season - Results don't matter?! Players don't care?! His authority = squat?!

This seems almost unprofessional? IF they didn't want the early season interruption - logical - then WHY leak this then? Let it play out, as we expected they would and if it isn't working out, then sack him. IF they are organised then they can be already sussing out candidates as soon as results are going south.

And then, what IF, the inevitable... Jets have a killer season, GVE leading them to new Glory... I guess then he leaves on a high? Then fans wonder wtf is the deal there?

I know GVE doesn't have his fans, but the time to change regimes was earlier/post last season. The next window is IF results are dire entering into late December. That's all common practice, reasonable. The multi-year contract/pay out could be a barrier, but by mid-season the pay out sum could be less, closer to his contract.

I spoke to a former jets player post 2006 season and he said there was a player revolt against Nick Theodorakopoulos being at the club and that games where thrown to get him out. Ironically GVE took over from him and they won the comp.

I'm normally against any sort of player revolt and believe its a sign of a weak club to give in to player demands but I'll make a big exception in GVE's case. He is an egotistical noodle brain and shouldn't be anywhere near an a-league team (or our junior rep teams for that matter).

My main problem with gve is how he often reacts after games. For example he loves to mention how many more passes we had or the possession stats, and quite often this is after a game where we have lost( which is many) and only created a few chances throughout the game. We would be near the slowest team at progressing the ball from defence to attack. I'm not asking for a long ball coach, I'm all for building up from the back, I just envy teams like victory who have set structures in place to move look and pass forward with the aim of getting in behind and creating as many chances as possible. Victory players always have options to pass to and are rarely isolated or outnumbered. I've watched hundreds of times this season as players like brown and Goodwin especially, are passed the ball and than left with no option to pass to. Good managers have structures in place to combat this and although we have improved of late, it is obviously too late. Therefore gve out for me. Recruited some good players but tactically not good enough and I can't see it improving when he classes winning the possession and passing stats higher than winning points

I agree that our team structure is quite poor but the criticisms of Josh Mitchell extend far beyond the options he has when on the ball. I remember against Perth earlier this year a cross was floated in to the back post and all Mitchell had to was let the ball go out (no one around him) and he decides to put it out for a corner. That to me shows a total lack of awareness and along with Josh being poor at everything else you need as a defender (positioning, marking, tackling etc) I don't really see a future for him. To be fair to GVE he hasn't played him much at all recently.

i think people are too harsh on josh mitchell tbh. the way the team moves when on the ball (if you want to look at it at a very basic level, just look at how our fullbacks sprint forward regardless of what happens, when we get the ball) and most of the times mitchell has the ball he's left with only 1 or no options, when every cb that looks to play the ball in the hal has at the very least 2 options.

i think if we had the right coach, and played the right way, local-boy josh mitchell could be terrific for us.

I agree he's bought in some good young talent GloryPerth but he's also bought in and persisted with some really ordinary players, most notably Josh Mitchell. The problem I have with GVE is his ego and truly woeful man management. In addition he makes some massive tactical blunders, for example; digressed from a proposed high tempo passing game to continual long balls to Heskey, played a very high defensive line against the fastest counter attacking team in the league (MV 5-0), debuted a 17yo against Perth away, a pretty tough fixture, and dragged him right after half-time when his mistake concedes a goal.

I could go on and on. Really want him out of the club

i've grown up nearly next door to the remo family, and know all the remo's well.

after his backflip @ the world cup, he has digressed massively. in a youth league game you can point him out as the weak spot. and when the youth played state league last season, he was not much chop at all - physically non-existent, and no confidence.

this is a huge issue i see with how nnsw (and state leagues in general) - our good young guys are getting held back and not developing physically enough. a few years ago the nnsw nswis elite program used to play under23s (reserve grade) in the nbn state league, and the emerging athletes would play in the 19s. both were competitive in those respective age groups, but did not win it. it was then decided for nswis to play 19s, and eap to play 17s. they walked the comp. but when the nswis/eap boys eventually made it to the bigger boys, they were nearly in tears because of the physicality of the people older than them. and they lost confidence, and barely any of them scraped through to even play state league 1st grade. the system currently is leaning towards the boys playing against people their own age/size/etc and it's holding them back - more boys from the nswis team playing in the under23s have made it than the 19s ones.

and this is exactly what happened to remo. against players his own age and size he's great - against anyone bigger than him, he curls into the foetal position.

as much as i'm family friends with the remo's, i'll be very surprised if remo kicks on to a-league level one day tbh.

I say this only having followed, especially recently, from a distance, figuratively in many ways, including the A-League generally, but you fans sound incredibly harsh - Sure, his record on VISA players is poor, perhaps the poorest of the present crop of A-League coaches - BUT He picked up for your club some of the CREAM of the top young Australian crop out there, including a number of young GCU stars, Heart's gun LWB Scotty Goodwin AND nicking under-appreciated West Aussie stars, Scotty Neville, Mark Brigihitti and especially Adam Taggart - the latter who otherwise might not have got an A-League contract again, and who in turn has repaid that faith several fold to become quite the leading young star of the Jets, this season's A-League, the Young Socceroos team which he's apart of AND EVEN the Socceroos. What a season it's been for him! He's also brought through, backed, another up and coming Young Socceroo star, from the Jets NYL side, Connor Chapman, who's really come on too and the Young Socceroos only stand to benefit even more from it.

Infact, for such a young, young, squad and really, such a revitalised squad really - your off/pre-season, the squad turnover, skewing so young, so many new players. Really, on paper, many expected the Jets to be battling the bottom 3, or outside the Top 6 - certainly not within the Top 6, ahead of much more fancied sides like Roar and SFC most of the season!

For a young side, where it would be expected time was needed to gell, plus some GCU stars who it might be expected could suffer 'second season blues,' the side has been strong. Heskey slot in well, despite late arrival too. And it's arguable the side only really declined once Heskey was out longer term?

Just looking at your squad now, still amazes me, Hoole and co coming through. Sure, maybe it catches up with you, late in the season, fighting for a finals place, but again, the fact you even are, and have been more consistent than many more fancied, experience laden, teams, that's a credit to your side and maybe even GVE to a degree?
