Since Afro pointed out a lack of baseball discussion here (and the ABL thread died), I'm gonna throw this out there. If nothing else I can bump this at World Sries time.
FWIW I'm pumped for this season as a Blue Jays fan. They spent up big over the off season and anything other than a deep playoff run will be a disapointment. Yankess are getting old, Red Sox are rebuilding, Orioles will have last years luck desert them and the Rays lost some starting pitching without much to replace it. The AL East is heading north for the first time since '93.

The MLB is so hard to follow in Australia. So many games, such little coverage.

Can't say i'm a fan of any particular team, but ever since I can remember I supported the Red Sox. Think it had something to do with Denny & Alan's balcony conversations on Boston Legal back when I was a teenager
Fox used to play a fair amount of games, and ESPN always has highlights shows on. Can keep up with it fairly well.

I watched the Yankees beat the A's in the 10th last year in September at Yankee stadium & I will forever be a Yankees fan from then on. For those of you that have not experienced a game in America, you must put it on your bucket list. It was a phenomenal night (made better by the waited seats we were in, right on the third base)

Being at the game is awesome. How much were the tix to the game you saw scottmac? I heard the New Yankee Stadium chargesd an arm and a leg. I sat in the nosebleeds at the old Yankee Sta. for about $18, but that was 2002.

The Daily Telegraph wrote:Edited by afromanGT: 13/6/2013 02:55:15 PMSydney Cricket Ground to host $13 million US baseball curtain-raiserUS Major League Baseball is coming to Sydney, with the opening series of next season - between the LA Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks - to be played at the Sydney Cricket Ground next March.
In a $13 million coup for the state government, the opening series of the MLB will be held at the SCG on Saturday March 22 and Sunday March 23 - the first time a competitive US baseball fixture will be held in Australia and only the sixth time one has been staged outside America.

The games have been described as the biggest internationally recognised event in this country since the 2003 Rugby World Cup final and come exactly 100 years after the Chicago White Sox played against NSW at the SCG.

"Sydney will host the first two games for the opening series of 2014 Major League Baseball at the Sydney Cricket Ground," Premier Barry O'Farrell said.

"The opening series will feature the LA Dodgers and the Arizona Diamondbacks playing the first two games of the season.

"This is a significant win for Sydney and again delivers on my election commitment to bring major events to NSW. It's estimated the matches will deliver a $13 million benefit for the local economy, as well as attract visitors from interstate and overseas."

NSW will be showcased to an estimated global TV household audience of up to 168 million, including 75 million in the US.

Ironically - or perhaps fortuitously for sports fans who like to see a bit of biff - the Dodgers and Diamondbacks had a huge brawl in their game yesterday, with the entire squads of both teams running across the field to fight each other.

A similar spectacle can't be predicted next year but the Dodgers and Diamondbacks will be in Sydney for six days, when they will play the two games and open the doors to their training sessions.

Sports Minister Graham Annesley said the event would "generate more than 10,000 international and interstate visitor nights to Sydney, which will help us reach our goal to double overnight tourism expenditure in NSW by 2020".

"Sydney has a history of hosting significant baseball games at the SCG, with the Chicago White Sox playing against a combined NSW team in 1914," he said.

"The SCG will be transformed into an MLB field, with the construction of an infield clay area, pitcher's mound, dugouts and additional grandstand."

I'm intrigued to know exactly how much the NSW State government spent luring them over here.

			    Pricey.
Platinum (Home Plate) - $499
Gold (Dugout) - $369
Silver (Grandstand) - $259
Bronze (Baselines) - $189
Outfield Lower - $ 99
Outfield Upper - $ 69

Really considering giving this a miss, even with priority ticketing through being a Blue Sox member.

BOOM! HEADSHOT!
Ouch! That's fucking horrible. You can hear the crack as the ball hits his skull. Apparently he got a fractured skull, I'm not entirely surprised. Reminded me horribly of the incident between Zimbabwe and Bangledesh a couple years back. As for the SCG game, I'd probably go along for it just so I can say I've seen a baseball game, dunno if I'd be too interested in it but.

Caved and bought 4 outfield tix. Kinda just going to the atmosphere since I don't really support either team, and the SCG isn't that big either. Should be fun.

Big day in MLBhttp://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/9540755/mlb-bans-13-including-alex-rodriguez-new-york-yankees-2014 Quote:Major League Baseball came down heavy Monday on the players it found to have been involved with the South Florida anti-aging clinic Biogenesis, suspending Alex Rodriguez through the end of the 2014 season and banning 12 others for 50 games, including three All-Stars: Nelson Cruz of the Texas Rangers, Everth Cabrera of the San Diego Padres and Jhonny Peralta of the Detroit Tigers."I am disappointed with the penalty and intend to appeal and fight this through the process," Rodriguez said in a release. "I am eager to get back on the field and be with my teammates in Chicago tonight. I want to thank my family, friends and fans who have stood by my side through all this."

MLB commissioner Bud Selig said in a statement that Rodriguez's punishment will begin Thursday and cover the rest of the 2013 regular season, the 2013 postseason and the 2014 regular season and was covered under the drug program's protocols and based on Rodriguez's "use and possession of numerous forms of prohibited performance-enhancing substances, including testosterone and human growth hormone, over the course of multiple years."

This will be what makes or breaks Bud Selig's tenure.
