Tim Michell From: Waverley Leader March 15, 2013
A FAST-GROWING soccer club hopes Monash Council will solve its ongoing reserve problems by committing money for upgrades in its next budget.
Glen Waverley Junior Soccer Club, which expects to sign a record number of members in 2013, is awaiting improvements to its Larpent Reserve base in Glen Waverley.
The Leader first revealed the club's struggles to accommodate its growing membership base in August last year.
Does the council need to do more to fix local sporting grounds? Tell us below.
First-year president Manny Heractsis said the club had since been in positive discussions with the council.
But he said fixing significant drainage problems at Larpent Reserve could take up to two years.
"It needs some substantial work to improve the drainage," Mr Heractsis said.
"I would expect that it would go into this year's budget for consideration."
He said the council had offered several alternative grounds, including Lum Reserve West.
But the club is keen to be able to use its home pitches, Larpent Reserve and Glen Waverley North Reserve, on a more regular basis.
He said the club would consider using artificial turf to solve any issues.
Mayor Micaela Drieberg said the project would be considered in budget deliberations. "Money is tight but we're hoping we'll be able to fund the improvements as they are needed," Cr Drieberg said.
