I know this thread is a joke but Aussies are proud of their drink driving, it's a real problem here, it's disgusting to be frank. I swear every second driver on a Friday night is drunk. I wouldn't dream of driving on a bank holiday, New Years, Christmas Eve or Australia Day; everybody is pissed. I guess part of the problem is that in this area, you have to drive to get anywhere, there's no local pubs- they've all got car parks. I reckon they should have coppers on the road outside bars, it's a fucking epidemic on the Gold Coast.

If you're going out drinking - leave the car AT HOME, and organize some form of transport home. Keep a $20 in your back pocket specifically for a cab. Catch a bus, or a train. Walk even.

have only done it once, and it wasn't exactly by choice.

I drove to a party in the middle of nowhere (Raymond terrace) & had planned to stay there. I only knew about 5/100 people there. I had a few drinks so I was at the pretty tipsy stage. one of my cousins mates (a gay guy) was going out with a policeman who was a real do-you-even-lift type of guy. apparently said cop really took to me, and after he'd drunk 10+ Bacardi breezers & snorted several lines of cocaine (yep, a cop) he decided to start hitting on me. needless to say it was the oddest, scariest night of my life. he got to the point where he started setting up people's sleeping bags, and put ours next to each other. I was so sure I was going to get raped that night I had to bail. I asked everyone at the party if I could get a lift to anywhere but that location, just away from the dude, but everyone was in a worse state than me. so I decided I needed to risk it, and I did. scariest drive home ever. in hindsight I don't know why I didn't just drive 5-10mins away & sleep in my car, but I was tipsy & very scared. I have never gone to a party in terrace since.
