just got back from the dawn service.

huge crowd and getting larger every year, was a great service this year, put together well and everyone participates......Lovely to see younger people showing their respect.

Certainly paid tribute to those in my family that fought.
Having been to Gallipoli, El Elamein and the Western Front,it showed me in part, just what these folk went through.
Also been to death camps at Dachau and Sachsenhausen and the Holocaust museum in Jerusalem -all unfortetable experiences

Do you believe there should be any recognition of people who gave their lives up and those who were seriously injured, for effectively altruistic purposes?

A parade on their return? Perhaps... Annual ceremonies, uniformed parades, unending years of commemoration ...how long for? Would 'Peace Day' serve a better purpose?

The whole thing feels more like a recruiting parade for the idea of war and re-filling the ranks after a certain point?

And thats not even getting into the underlying precursors to those wars. The intent of people signing up may have been altruistic...but therein lies the rub with altruism sometimes....it is easily exploited by statists of all persuasions.
