cheers leftrightout...disrespect was the last thing on my mind...quite the opposite...

My thoughts are very much echoed by plenty of ex service people...especially in the united states...this is why so many of them support political candidates like Ron Paul as they are also cognisant of the reality of war and not just the veneer anzac day style parading and associated heroic imagery and patriotism.

This is the patriotism and militarism that makes it all too easy for pollies to drag our service people off to conflicts in the first place. Anyone who studies a little of the pretexts to many of these conflicts will get where i am coming from.

Though i do agree with PB and girt above...sadly...in that it will continue on ad finitum...

I have to say, I've read through this forum and I cant see how blacka has spat on the grave of any soldiers??? :?

It's a perspective that both I and even my late grandfather shared (he never marched).

People really need to get over themselves and stop being so offended.

War is pain and suffering. Some people like to suffer in silence.

Do you believe there should be any recognition of people who gave their lives up and those who were seriously injured, for effectively altruistic purposes?

A parade on their return? Perhaps... Annual ceremonies, uniformed parades, unending years of commemoration ...how long for? Would 'Peace Day' serve a better purpose?

The whole thing feels more like a recruiting parade for the idea of war and re-filling the ranks after a certain point?

And thats not even getting into the underlying precursors to those wars. The intent of people signing up may have been altruistic...but therein lies the rub with altruism sometimes....it is easily exploited by statists of all persuasions.

uhmmmmm:roll:  today is an annual ceremonie

Ouch!

Huh? I dont get his point sorry...maybe its my poorly worded phrasing as usual ... :?

I realise it was an annual parade...thats my point...'for how long does it have to continue on for' was the question that followed.

And as far as me being 'disrespectful'...i dont see how questioning some unending theme of militarism is disrespectful...plenty of ex service people question what the day has turned into also. Some folks who have been in real combat do see the public fascination with it all to be a little on the queasy side. War is something best kept on the side...otherwise we do end up with a populace all too conditioned to a militarised mindset...

Outcast Republican

Now free to speak out a little more...he was always only ever nice enough to them to be able to stay on the economics congressional committees to get the occasional chance to smack Federal reserve chairman around!
