Australian Crime Commission would end drugs in sport probe under an Abbott government Jessica Marszalek News Limited Network April 28, 201312:02PM THE Australian Crime Commission would be directed to stop investigating drugs in sport under an Abbott Government so it can chase "serious criminals" instead, the Opposition's justice spokesman Michael Keenan says. The body used its extensive powers, like the power to phone tap, in a wide-ranging investigation into drugs in sport that found wide-spread use and pointed to organised crime being involved in supply and match-fixing. The findings led to anti-doping body ASADA's current focus on NRL and AFL clubs. But Mr Keenan said it was now time for ASADA to take over and for the powerful Crime Commission to get back to chasing bikies and "crime kingpins". "The Crime Commission is the most powerful law-enforcement agency in the country ... (and) they should be focusing on the most serious criminals that we do have and that's what we will direct them to do if we do get a chance to govern after September," he told ABC TV. He said Australia had specific anti-doping authorities to deal with doping, and they should be given the resources to do that job. "It's the Crime Commission that we believe need to be focused on the most serious criminals in our community and when I think of the most serious criminals I think of bikies and I think of the crime kingpins within the most serious organised criminal investigations." When asked whether that directive would clash with the Crime Commission's own findings that organised crime were involved in match-fixing, Mr Keenan said: "They have looked extensively at this and I think it's now time for ASADA to take the running on it." "The Crime Commission has the broadest powers of any law enforcement agency in Australia and we believe that they should be looking at the most serious criminal activities....that would be bikie gangs. http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/national/australian-crime-commission-would-end-drugs-in-sport-probe-under-an-abbott-government/story-fncynkc6-1226630960937

It is fair enough to pull the ACC off policing the banned drug lists of professional sports. Let the sports themselves clean this up with ASADA....make the sports foot the bill for it also.
And as a side issue... if they were serious about fighting organised crime they would end the drug war which only serves to line their pockets with easy money...thats whats turned what used to be social based biker groups into these warped 'bikie' gangs. No votes in that line though...

How hard is it for the respective football leagues to issue random drug testing? As an outsider, I don't think they're serious about this issue at all.

The problem is organised crime, and the fact that many drugs are available long before any counter-measures or testing is available for them.

Have you ever had an original thought before chief? Do you know it feels, or have you even fantasised about how it feels, to think something up all by yourself? I realise your autism may make this difficult but you should really try it as it's one of the most rewarding things in the world.

Given most policy issues are recurring failures its not surprising the same lines come up again and again. And perusing the thoughts of most folks, i think my line of thinking is generally more independently arrived at than most...

Hoff is attempting to call your opinions cliched, but doesn't have the vocabulary to eloquently express that.

When the Hoff was deciding on his username, he should've just said "bugger the expense, I will buy another vowel, thanks."

Well i guess that can apply to all sorts of opinions depending on your perspective... I think he just wants to make me cry or somethin by calling me autistic  But yeah i grew up as a faggot kid in penrith with a lot of 'scary' biker types around so i am fairly thick skinned...tho to be fair to them they are very reasonable and misunderstood types in my experience...at least back in the day...

Love how they would stop it to chase "serious criminals". The amount of money involved in what they are investigating is enough to call it 'serious crime' alone. Than you have revelations that improper use of peptides may have played a role in a young man's death, and I'd say it's probably worth finishing off what has been started.

It will be a very big cover up if they don't complete this.

Why would I wanna express myself eloquently on a forum, especially one filled with soccer duds? The notion that someone doesn't have the vocab is itself cliched. P.s if you throw big words into sentences in an attempt to make yourself appear "eloquent" you're only displaying a repressed autism an homosexuality. Such a thing isn't good writing; it's faggotry of the highest order.

Can a "spectrum disorder" even be repressed? :-k
By definition its a grab bag ...or a box of categories for folks who don't actually fit one defined set of critieria...its the laziest diagnosis there is. But then that whole caper is just a crass attempt to categorise individuals by dullards too rigid to accept them as what they are. Its a very broad mix...
You only need to look at what a broad set of people get lumped into the ASD box...evidenced by the fact that the APA has just ruled that Aspergers doesnt even exist anymore according to the new version of the DSM. Its a highly politicised and dubious field the more u dig into it.
Just a shame so many well meaning parents commit their still developing children to a life of slavery to diagnostic criteria. It makes me glad this stuff was not in fashion when i went thru early schooling.

Such a thing isn't good writing; it's faggotry of the highest order. First of all; yeah, why the hell would you want to express yourself eloquently in a written medium? Secondly; why do you keep using phrasing which belittles football/'soccer' fans? You're the spud on here, this either reinforces that you're a petty troll or proves your lack of intelligence. Thirdly; since when does an extensive vocabulary equate to homosexuality? Fourthly; Why is everyone/anyone you disagree with automatically autistic? Do you think this is some kind of insult? y'know what, I think you win. You've actually made my head hurt. I've fed the troll and cannot possibly fathom this stupidity. Good on you. Put on your Dunce's hat and join Viper in the corner.
