he said he was coming home last season didn't he? was going to play on the south coast, and possibly for base wage in the hal (wsw?), yet he stayed in switzerland for family reasons?

yeah i'm pretty sure it was his kids that drove it too. from memory, tinkler tried really hard to get him at the jerks. offered him heaps of horses from patinak (chippz is the way into gambling on horses iirc), had physio study setup at newy uni for his mrs, etc - but the kids wanted to stay over there.

Scott Chipperfield has confirmed a second coming with boyhood club Tarrawanna is imminent later this season - and this time he's convinced there will be no deal-breakers.

A year after being forced to pan a guest stint with the Blueys in the Illawarra Premier League, the 37-year-old has inked a short-term contract to link with Tarrawanna in June.

Chipperfield had signed a deal with the club outside a Corrimal fish and chip shop last year on the proviso Tarrawanna officials pledged not to pay him a cent for any appearances.

But the need to be close to his two Switzerland-based sons after ending an 11-year stint with Basel scuppered any chance of a return to suburban football in Wollongong.

Chipperfield has kept in close contact with Tarrawanna commiteeman and long-time friend Bill Glancy since, asking if the deal was still on the table when he met with Glancy and his brother Jim for a drink over summer.

"He said he would have liked to have had the opportunity to have a kick again and would Tarrawanna like to have him," Bill said.

"We found that pretty overwhelming and most clubs in Australia would like to have him back for a kick. He started explaining it was family commitments with his boys that had to make him go back last time and he was apologetic he couldn't play.

"He's actually more keen to play in front of his family and friends [than anything else]. It's been a long time since he's played in Wollongong in front of his family and friends so he's really looking forward to that."

Tarrawanna officials have pencilled in the Coniston clash on June 15 as Chipperfield's first match back in Wollongong, once clearance is provided.

They are hopeful of having the former Socceroo, a veteran of 68 caps and two World Cup campaigns, in their title-chasing squad for up to six games.

Chipperfield is currently playing and coaching Swiss amateur side FC Aesch after ending his Basel career, but has kept close tabs on Tarrawanna's progress through Blueys mentor Luke McGuire.

An appearance back in the famous blue of Tarrawanna would mark 20 years since the then 17-year-old scored in the Blueys' 1993 Conference League grand final win over Wollongong Serbia.
