Ange Postocoglou has been given the job as National Team coach when the FFA sacks Holger qualify or no qualify for WC.

The deal was done when he stayed at Roar the extra season after Victory had him lined up but the FFA asked him to stay one more year to help them sell the license and if he did that in return they would give him the socceroos job after holger.

Enjoy

Belief factor on the 'Ange next coach' is high.

Belief factor on the 'Ange staying on at Roar to help the FFA sell the license' is low.

As for coaching the All-Stars, the reasoning would have been that (at the time the decision was made) he had won the previous two grand finals and he was in charge of the biggest franchise in the league.

Correct me if I am wrong, but the coach for the Allstars was voted by the fans, with Ange winning by something like 1.2% of the vote over Popa.

Makes sense. Even with the great support WSW have had, there are still more MV fans out there willing to vote for Ange.

Yeah pretty sure he was picked to coach the All-Stars because he was voted in by the fans. Not because of some conspiracy about him readied as Socceroos coach.

Why let Holger pick a squad then sack him?

Unless plans are being laid for Ange to take over after the World Cup, which is much more believable.

Righto, mate.

Judging from GATE4's ramblings in the NSW Premier League thread, I've more intent to believe Miron Bliberg is set to take over. Normally you can't make head or tail of his rambling rants.

Jog on, son.

I'm not joking, I've heard from a reliable source that Curtis Stone is moving away from his role as a celebratory chef and print up boy/shag-on-the-side-for Dawn French to take over the role and take us to the 2018 Russian world cup. ;)

By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.

Are you referring to this article?

Herald Scum wrote:
HOLGER Osieck has three games to secure Australia's place at next year's FIFA World Cup or else he could face the axe.

The Socceroos play their final three Group B qualifiers from June 4-18 but third place would leave them with a two-legged September playoff against third from the other Asian group, with the winner to take on South America's fifth-best side in November.

Football Federation Australia will review Osieck's position after the final qualifier against Iraq on June 18 with the team's performances over the next 270 minutes to largely determine his fate.

The Herald Sun understands that FFA will appoint a local coach if it chooses to dismiss Osieck.

Melbourne Victory's Ange Postecoglou, Central Coast's Graham Arnold and Western Sydney's Tony Popovic are the three candidates, although no official approaches have been made.

Pending the review, the under siege Osieck could be punted even if he secures second spot and qualifies automatically for Brazil 2014.

It's believed FFA would not hesitate acting earlier should Tuesday's qualifier away to group leaders Japan prove a disaster.

FFA chief executive David Gallop refused to discuss specifics on Osieck but he wasn't backing down from previous remarks about the pressure on the team to qualify.

"There is not much to add to what's been said before. We want to qualify for the World Cup and the pressure is on for us to qualify," Gallop said.

Osieck was put on notice by Gallop after the 2-2 draw at home to Oman and another poor performance would leave the German on shaky ground.

He isn't the only nervous Socceroos staffer, with a forensic examination of their inner-sanctum taking place in recent months.

National teams boss John Boultbee became the first casualty last week while several more of Osieck's closest allies are in the gun.FFA would be prepared to give the new coach a blank canvas to work with and bring in his own staff.

Osieck was appointed in August 2010 after a prolonged search for Pim Verbeek's replacement and he is contracted until the end of Australia's 2014 World Cup cycle, which is June 18 if the Socceroos finish lower than third.

After a promising start to Osieck's tenure, where the Socceroos reached the final of the 2011 Asian Cup, the team has stagnated and the performances have dropped off.

I've bolded the only actual quote in the article.

I'd hardly consider Ange a lock at this point.

Ange isn't ready. He's never been in that sort of pressure before, I remember with Pim, he let the media into the camp WAYYYY to often, Ange prob wont do that but he still doesn't know what it takes when people are constantly questioning you.

What guiding your team to 36 unbeaten and back to back GF isn't enough pressure.

I bet if you walked into his office he would have his Socceroos squad written on a piece of paper and everything he would do differently. He is a regular commentator for the Socceroos and you can see in his face sometimes he straight up wants to blame Holger and rightly so. He would walk in and know straight away which players he wants and how they will play.

This is where/why the FFA needs the input of an independent technical committee, not JUST Han Berger, in formulating and selecting/seeking out a candidate/s. The devil is obviously in the detail and those with expertise know who the best candidates are or can see so via their resumes, interviews and references. A committee would also help draw up guidelines in the process of selecting the candidate and the goals, requirements, 'performance criteria' they need to meet, which is a little more than 'just qualifying, no matter the cost'.

We could nick Le Guen for the play offs? But Oman could be the ones to finish above us. :o

lol We all remember, last game, Holger vs Le Guen? So, who will REALLY win? :o :p

People talk that we could've offered Rjikaard the job in late 2010, but we 'could've' also offered the job to Paul Le Guen back then too!
