SYDNEY'S indigenous star Adam Goodes was racially abused by a fan in the dying moments of the Swans' dominant victory of Collingwood last night. Goodes, who was visibly distressed by the outburst, pointed the fan out to security and she was ejected.

Teammate Jude Bolton said afterwards: "To have someone in the crowd racially vilifying Goodsie is just so disappointing."

Collingwood president Eddie McGuire visited the Sydney rooms to apologise.

"I spoke to Adam, and he told me what he'd heard,'' McGuire said.

"I told Adam not to let one person ruin his leadership on this issue.

"I apologised to him on behalf of the Collingwood Football Club and football people in general. We have a zero tolerance at the Collingwood football club on this. It's devastating.''

Sydney coach John Longmire said he didn't know a lot of details about the clash between Goodes and the female fan.

"That will be addressed by the authorities,'' Longmire said.

"Adam was clearly disappointed and upset. He's confident the AFL will work through it.

"It's something everyone takes really seriously.''

Collingwood chief executive Gary Pert said the club had begun an investigation into the incident.

"Ed went into have a chat to Adam ... just to establish what might have been said," Pert said.

"We have a zero tolerance towards racism. They are certainly not welcome as far as we are concerned. There is no doubt that it is disappointing."

Earlier, Sydney's greatest problem in Melbourne last night was not Collingwood but rather the perils of peak-hour traffic.

In an unusual beginning to a blockbuster Friday night fixture claimed emphatically by 47 points by the premiers, the only time the Swans were remotely panicked was when a broken-down bus failed to arrive at the team hotel to transport them to the MCG.

Improvising, Sydney bundled its players into a string of taxis, but when they became stuck in peak-hour traffic, the Essendon-raised Jude Bolton led a bevy of Swans on to Melbourne's tram network in order to arrive in a similar method to most of the 65,306 fans.

This is being discussed in the AFL thread funnily enough, we don't need another thread. Thanks.
