Depends a lot on what private school, or public school you're talking about. Also school is not that important. I know that doesn't mean much when you're doing your final exams, but by the time you're my age it matters little.

Those old adages of "hard work" and "good attitude" will help achieve success.

Of course, it's easy to go to a private school and not do any work etc.

But I'm saying that private schools are a much more conducive environment to learning, and have a higher calibre of students and teachers.

As a general rule, that would be true. But I went to a public high school in country NSW, and having done so allows me to engage with people better in my profession. My elite private school colleagues often have difficulty in engaging with the general public.

Do you really need to engage with the general public though

What a ridiculous attitude. Most people who go to public schools do so because their parents aren't able to afford to send them to a private school. They don't have a choice.

Most people at public schools are shitcunts who couldn't give a rats about their education, this comes from their parents mainly.

If you want your kid to do well then please send him private or selective.

My kids will go to a selective private school, like I did. But hopefully they won't be elitist fuckwits who assume the majority of people who aren't as privileged as they are are just "shitcunts."

If you raise them right then you have done a mighty fine job. As a parent my one major acomplishment will be having children who are humble hardworking and caring people.

I went to a private school that happened to be selective as well, so I know exactly what it means. It doesn't really matter what school you go to, the point is that your attitude is shared by - and is to the benefit of - plenty of privileged and elitist wankers.

It's an attitude that comes from the same eminent school of thought as lines like "If only poor people worked harder."

What these elitist snobs dont know is, its something we have no control over

We cant make our parents make us go to private school because they know that school is for our betterment, and I hated my public school to the back teeth

But, we still enjoyed fishing and crabbing on weekends, it doesnt invalidate our existence (or prospects) because our lives werent handed to us on a platter

Why are people projecting?

All I said is that if you want to perform to the best of your ability surrounded by people interested in education then you should go private over public.

Of course you can do well at a public, no one is disputing that.

I went to a public school that was surrounded by private schools. Our OP average was higher then all the other schools in the district.

I have cousins that had private education from grade 4 to grade 12. They both work at a pub full time.

It comes down to the individual.

There was a Christian college near my high school. Can confirm the difference between academic success and overall behaviour was better at my school, but hey I don't have God on my side

He was a man of specific quirks. He believed that all meals should be earned through physical effort. He also contended, zealously like a drunk with a political point, that the third dimension would not be possible if it werent for the existence of water.

Just because you go to a private school doesn't mean you want to learn any more than public schools.

It just means your parents are loaded.

Why are people projecting?

All I said is that if you want to perform to the best of your ability surrounded by people interested in education then you should go private over public.

Of course you can do well at a public, no one is disputing that.

Just because you go to a private school doesn't mean you want to learn any more than public schools.

It just means your parents are loaded.

Way to completely miss my point.

It's all well and good to say 'surround yourself with better people'. However, if you surround yourself with academics only, you're going to have an atrocious grasp of reality.

A kid I went to school with was doing year 12 maths in year 9 and 6 subjects a semester at Uni. He's now a design engineer at Arup but probably couldn't tell you the difference between a screw and a bolt. He's also pretty good at making tradesmen want to bury him alive because he doesn't know how to interact with people and has a ridiculous elitist attitude. Individual case sure, but I know what you're trying to argue.

Utter garbage. Its academics & in particular scientists that investigate reality, to a level that the majority of joe public wouldn't have an inkling about.

They investigate the reaches of reality, not everyday life.

Engineering academics are pretty bad. We often do work for universities so they have data to give to their students. The way they approach simple projects is out of control.

One day Ricey MKII when you step out of your lecture theatre you're going to re-read your posts here and realise how out of touch you are :)

I would argue that Joe Public is way more removed from reality than academics.
As for 'Ricey', isn't that the guy who denies the science of human induced global warming? A little ironic to use him as a reference point for me, especially as the academic 'environment' by and large has settled on the science of global warming.

Joe Public operates in the real world though, the every day world. Academics live in their own little world of research.

Your arrogant and absolute argument style is identical to Ricey, hence the reference.

If stating peer reviewed facts & research to support arguments is considered 'arrogant', then I'm ok with that

Personally, I consider arrogance to be when people don't substantiate their arguments with facts & evidence, but justify through 'real world experience', also mockingly known as 'anecdata'
