Being brought up in Australian soccer, with a "get rid of it" mentality and no protection at all from Australian referees. Little wonder the players couldn't dribble the Oman defenders. Can you imagine any socceroos with this skill level? Maybe only Tom Rogic. Here is the beauty of small sided games or futsal. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x10cr6w_van-persio-shows-off-freestyle-skills_sport#.Uac3VdJmh8E Futsal breeds this ball control. Good video, Damo.=d> The futsal debate continues. Even within FFA there is debate about futsal's value. In South Australia, the TD is Brazilian ( I think). He is keen on any player playing futsal to augment outdoor 11 v 11. Yet in another state, I know of a FFA stakeholder with a British background, where he bans his players in his elite squads from playing futsal. Some won't join his squad because of this rule. In the same branch of FFA , another coach is a passionate advocate of futsal as a useful development tool.

FFS. Says it all. ](*,) A Football Technical Director with a British background is an oxymoron. Where would the EPL be without foreign players from technically skilled football countries, ( eg France, Spain, Italy, South America)? Nowhere. All clatter, hoofball and fightball.

Those guys are still arguing that the earth is flat. Futsal teaches fast feet and even faster thinking, seeing angles, possibilities & solutions. Close control in small spaces. Improvisation and beating one, two or more opposition players with quick counter attacks. Vision and a great passing range & techniques. Doing the unpredictable and unexpected. All the things that our players need and are sorely lacking in the National team. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-2nfM3iVqAViva futsal ( as a development tool for the real game at the highest level). Chipperfield says Bresciano must start 31 May 2013-SBS EXCLUSIVE: Dave Lewis Two-time World Cup finalist Scott Chipperfield said Mark Bresciano must be restored to Australia’s starting line-up to give the Socceroos their best chance to qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. Chipperfield represented Australia 68 times in a decorated international career that included the 2006 and 2010 World Cup campaigns. He described the prospect of leaving the Bresciano on the bench for the match against Japan on 4 June as ‘unthinkable’. “For me, getting Mark Bresciano back in from the start is the key, not just against Japan but also for the home qualifiers against Jordan and Iraq,” said Chipperfield, who is coaching fifth-tier Amateur Swiss club FC Aesch. “I was surprised when he wasn’t picked from the start against Oman and it was a shame he went off so quickly after coming on with a knee injury, because he’s by far our most creative player.“When he’s on the pitch it looks like we have the imagination to unlock teams with a pass, or a flick or a clever run.
“He can also score goals and his presence makes us more dangerous and far less predictable.“Against Oman we looked good going sideways or backwards b ut didn’t have too much to offer going forward and we relied far too much on hopeful long balls that didn’t find their targets. “It wasn’t good to watch and it wasn’t effective. We lacked ideas and that’s what Mark Btesciano brings you.”http://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/news/1154084/Chipperfield-says-Bresciano-must-startEdited by Damo Baresi: 31/5/2013 06:53:50 PM

Anglophobic wankers, I agree we need more indoor football but I'd rather have a physical domestic league than a half-competitive national team. At the end of the day, it's our game. We do need to focus more on the technical side though, I just don't think we should change the way referees view the game.

This ball control is developed in junior years through small sided games and futsal. The Brit's past focus on strong, physical & rushed play has come at the expense of technique. As a result the U.K's national teams have been left behind by the countries that emphasize skill. EPL clubs now look overseas, to those countries to buy technically developed players. I love the way Hoddle, Gasgoigne, Gerrard and Bale play but they are the exception, rather than the norm. Edited by Damo Baresi: 7/6/2013 11:13:46 PM
