I guess it's down to the fact that we've domesticated dogs. We don't farm them with the sole purpose of eating them (like they do/did in Korea).

I am sure you are right, I have never knowingly eaten dog, but that does not mean it is wrong to eat dog meat.

Lamb tastes much better than dog meat. FYI.

Western sensibilities seem to be rather arbitrary and have no real basis in anything worth while. We can eat a cute little lamb but not a cute little puppy, makes absolutely no sense.

Why is me going out and killing a whale for food any different from me going out and catching some fish for food?
What Japan is doing might be stupid but it does not mean that they should be stopped from doing it completely. They should be told to do it intelligently.

It's not to say that it's wrong. It's our western sensibilities that fundamentally tell us that "whaling is wrong". They're the same sensibilities that tell us that it's ok to eat a cow but not ok to eat a puppy.

But the thing is, Whaling isn't sustainable. And their Whaling is exceeding demands. They've got MASSIVE stockpiles of Whale meat back in Japan, some 7-8,000 tonnes of the stuff.

That is stupid but it does not mean whaling is fundamentally wrong.

They're not Whaling for food. They have excessive stockpiles that are still growing.

They're only whaling because it's what they've always done and stopping now would mean a) Admitting defeat and b) That there would be a sudden large number of unemployed.

They don't even eat the whale food they make. It's in massive stockpiles. It's about national pride.

Not a great idea to hunt them to extinction but as long as that does not happen then I have no problem with it.

There needs to be a gradual scaling back of Japanese whaling operations in order to allow those who work in the industry to find alternate employment rather than seeing a sudden surge in unemployment as an entire industry goes under.

Though it's more likely that Japan will just tell everyone to eat a dick and keep doing what they've always done.

Or if the ICJ rules against Japan will they withdraw from the IWC and just keep doing what they are?
