Lots of shakes all day. 5.2 largest this morning. Yesterday's 6.5 was scary, luckily nothing came down at my place.

Seems about every 2-3 mins an earthquake at least 2 strikers with at least a 4 every hour

I've actually felt maybe one of those, and I wouldn't have noticed it if stuff wasn't rattling.

In Thorndon not far from the Beehive. The streets are eerily empty. Our 'office' is in fact a converted 19th century wooden house so a bit safer than offices in the CBD.

Hope AJohn's okay too.

Wellington's buildings are designed to be a little more resilient to earthquakes. It's being portrayed as something far more major than it is as far as I can tell.

Initial quake downgraded to a 6.2

Since have had 6 4+ quakes, and 3 5+ quakes. Lots of smaller aftershocks.

This one was right up the road from my folks old place. My peeps in Nelson inform me that there wasn't too much damage fortunately.

Family and friends are all okay. woke up this morning with 32 messages on Facebook and figured something was up.

Brothers message: "You lucky twat. Being in England at the moment. Stupid house full on swayed. Power was cut. Scariest thing I've ever been in. Everything's okay though, TV nearly fell over, your CD collection fell. Stayed outside with a couple of mates, saw the house rock back and forth. I still have an adrenaline rush. Your old flatmate came over to check on shit, the cat hasn't come back yet. School's formal tonight was cancelled and I'm not going in on Monday because they need to check the Boys College. Holy fuck holy fuck I'm okay. Just had two big ones at once. Not fun. Not fun at all. Enjoy the rain you cunt, I'll enjoy the fucking earth trying to kill me."

Can't imagine what a real quake feels like. I've only felt the outer edge of a 5.3 and I shat myself.
