Top 100 Australian feature films of all time, ranked by total reported gross Australian box office as at January 2013

Next update February 2014

"Australia" was the worst film I've ever seen, from any country. A steaming, vile pile of dog turd where not a cliche was left unmined.

I'm surprised romper stomper was so down the list, fantastic movie and kinda launched russell crowes career.

"Australia" was the worst film I've ever seen, from any country. A steaming, vile pile of dog turd where not a cliche was left unmined.

Wasn't that the point of it though?

Anything with Hugh Jackman is great IMO. Except for Movie 43

wrong! movie 43 was the most original film I've seen in ages! great jokes and balanced the line between crude and humour effortlessly!

But my top 10 Aussie films

the Rage in Placid Lake
Wog Boy
Mad Max
two Hands
Bad Eggs
Cracker Jack
Candy
Dirty Deeds
Thunderstruck
Wolf Creek (most fucked up horror film I've seen! can't wait for the sequel)

Really? I genuinely hated that movie. There were only about 3 scenes I actually found funny - most of which were straight from the trailer. From memory I enjoyed the Halle Berry scene (until the ending of it), the girl getting her period, and the Hugh Jackman scene - as well as the overall idea of the dude pitching a movie I thought was pretty funny. Potentially one or two more scenes I enjoyed but I really can't remember. The cartoon cat scene was legitimately the worst thing I've ever seen at a cinema.

I saw Kate and Leopold at the Cinema so I have pretty fair line to judge from.

Even my wife who has a low threshold for crude humour enjoyed it and the Cartoon Cat was fantastic, it was just so wrong on every level that it became right! I mean, the cat
face fucks the guy in its fantasies and the iBabe (don't fuck it),
the period piece was my overall favourite though! great overreaction by all involved!

Time to breath new life into this dormant thread.

It is not well known but Australia has been a major pioneer of the motion picture. Who is credited with the first ever full reel feature film The Story Of the Kelly Gang made in 1906? Us.  Believe it or not there is still remaining footage of this slice of movie history. https://youtu.be/vf0YNb8n9NM Six years earlier the Salvations Army's production of Soldiers of the Cross is reputed to be the world's first multi media feature film. Sadly no film footage of this pioneering masterpiece remains.

My Top 10 Aussie Films:
Picnic At Hanging Rock
Paradise Road
Mad Max
Jedda
Mad Max 2
Shine
Babe
Animal Kingdom
Wolf Creek
Tomorrow When the War Began.

Here is a small quiz. Name the film which launched the Hollywood careers of Judy Davis and Sam Neil?

Have to dig deep to find it but I came across some full length Aussie horror film on YouTube that people said trumped Hollywood. Low budget. I'll try and find it.

That was the new Hawaii Five 5O  lead's last film before he left for Hollywood. Is it Alex Laughlin.. something like that. I enjoyed Oyster Farmer.. good thriller.

Was it "The Long Weekend" (1978), starring John Hargreaves and Briony Behets?
