Have a look what it says .. http://www.melbournevictory.net/forum/“”"”" The forum was hacked today, lost data. If anyone wants whats left, with the forum license and domain to get it back up, let me know on twitter @melbvictorynet”"”"” Arguably the biggest club forum in the A-League … it is closed down with the above message … Passwords .. links to home email accounts and home computers etc … I read about these things and am wondering aloud what it all means …. As I said … I would appreciate anybody’s knowledge and advice about what if anything a member of a forum should do knowing the site has been hacked … This must have been a total job and with little IT skills in this area I am amazed how this site and its history has now been lost … I am concerned and seek advice about my Midfielder [handle for want of a better word] … should I change this because it appears the hackers had the skill to break tho the MV forum controls password etc… would my Midfielder [handle] be better to be changed … Just a word to any MV forum member … this is very sad as MV along with SFC had some of the best football discussions I have seen plus information and links …. so sad this is all lost and a lot of my stuff as well… The prick is even boasting about it .. looks like everything has been deleted imagine how the people who put this together feel.. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BTwDKEZIMAAW3w-.png

This would have been an opportunistic attack, forums are regularly taken down by hacker groups scanning millions of forums at a time for vulnerabilities. The admin of MV.net has been inactive for a very long time (years), and its unlikely that the forum software had been updated or backed up lately leaving any security vulnerabilities that the software had completely open.

All the common forum software salts / hashes / encrypts user passwords by default. You *should* be fine. Not a guarantee though. I'm no expert mind you. Have to remember though that your password will be worth little to most hackers. Few if any will have the time or skill to bother with protected password database. Generally there would need to be credit card data to interest anyone. They were probably only able to hack because of out of date forum software / SQL injection, so again probably don't have the skill to get to your password.
Also forum data can get quite large, most hobbyists won't bother with backups once it gets to a few gigs.

Everything on the forum is in some kind of database, usernames, passwords, threads, posts etc. From there most use php etc to display that data into a viewable forum.

I'm guessing there would have probably only been a handful of threads. Something like "Omg melburn da best!!!" Best club ever in 07 but not anymore!!1
Crowds!!!
Maybe Muscat did it, I know he was a good hacker ;)
