Last summer was relatively quiet on the bushfire front. This summer is going to be catastrophic.

4 firefighters have now been taken to hospital - 1 with a heart attack. Hearing reports that the fires have possibly been deliberately lit. Sydney hasn't had serious rain in over 7 weeks. The bush around Sydney is drier than a nuns twat. Agree with Afro, if we don't get serious rain soon, we could be seeing a repeat of those 2003 and Black Saturday bushfires.

Why haven't NSW rural firefighters been back-burning all winter?

afromanGT wrote:Why haven't NSW rural firefighters been back-burning all winter? You can't back-burn all winter. You need certain conditions to do it. You can only do a back-burn on an area once every 3-5 years if I remember correctly. They have been doing it though, at least where I live. In the past month and a half there have been 2-3 smaller looking back-burns around my area every Saturday. Last year they did a lot of back-burning in my area as we hadn't had any fires for a decade.

A friend of mine was stuck in a carriage at Seven Hill station for two hours. Eventually a woman went into labour and all passengers were evacuated for. The carriage and asked to walk down the track to Toongabbie station

That last photo in the OP seems incongruous.

There was another small bushfire yesterday, just south of Newcastle. This one was actually stafrted by backburning.
