Scoring goals may be an issue for us, but fingers crossed Nagai and Sciola bag a few each from the wings.
I'm confident that both Maclaren and Smeltz will do well in front of goal, im expecting 20 between those two.

Little surprised the Roar haven't looked at him. Would be a much better alternative to Antonio Murray imo. We need a good back-up striker.

Am wondering why McGrath is trialling at MV? Unless I'm wrong, the only way we will sign someone (apart from the marquee) is if Bru leaves. We have Govas and McGrath on trial for one "potential" spot. Marquee will take the last position, as I've been told that Mahazi has been signed to a senior contract (on twitter, make of it what you will), leaving us with just the one spot (which is why I mentioned Bru earlier).

They definitely need Atleast one more striker not enough cover. Not on of them is a ten plus goals scorer.

Smeltz (injured), Maclaren, Sidnei, Harold (minor injury), Nagai and Makeche (minor injury) are the CF's (or cover CF's.) Probably in that order of rank.

A major reason being that actually most, if not all of the clubs, have already all but finalised their squads. Infact some have already. Opportunities are unfortunately limited - bar perhaps as an Injury Replacement or filling the void of a late departure/transfer to Asia or Europe (E.g. Vidosic's departure at AU)? And opportunities naturally limit even more when the squads who DO have a spot/s left to fill are seeking players who play other areas, like defenders.

This is ALSO a reason why even 'proven quality', the likes of ('ironically' - due to being a Heart 'reject') Matt Thompson can't even get an A-League gig, at the moment - not even with Phoenix! :o

Maybe Ange backs himself as a better judge of talent than Heart, they've made plenty of recruitment mistakes before & this could be another one

I think the issue at MH was that we needed a goalscorer who had results, whilst Brent McGrath is still developing his game. The International route we have taken for the striker role was also driven by commercial considerations.

He was unlucky at MH not to get a contract, and I am sure most other clubs have their own reasons why he may not be a great fit for them at this time.

Good on him if MV do sign him.
