Highlighting a serious issue of sexual abuse discourse.

I don't mean to sound dismissive, because I'm of the opinion that male sexual assault victims are all too readily dismissed by the public. But some of them look fake. But Some of them are proper messed up.

I had the same reaction at first sight. But really, the whole point was to highlight the issue of Male sexual abuse and how easily dismissed it is.

A couple of guys putting up photoshopped pictures on tumblr (or frankly doing anything on tumblr) makes it easier to dismiss, IMO.

It would be good to see mainstream media coverage pick up this story though. It's the kind of material that The Project loves.

Any form of sexual abuse is wrong. We SHOULD remove gender based discourse altogether. Things such as feminism, domestic abuse against women, child abuse and battered wife syndrome.

Any form of violence or abuse should be categorised the same and punished severely. Stand up and take a stand and so NO to this shit.

Something needs to be done about this attitude that men want sex all the time and would never turn down a woman's advances.

I know a lot of people are of the belief that a man can't be sexually assaulted, because every guy would want it etc. This is such a wrong belief to have.

My best mate was sexually assaulted. He was actually, in a sense, raped (seems a bit violent in the context) to lose his virginity. Basically he was forced to get blind drunk by his housemates, they pushed him & this other girl into a room, and locked the door. He was pretty down about it for months. It's still the one houseparty I regretted not going to, because I would have stopped it happening because I know he was holding out for a right girl.

I'm still struggling with the concept of a male being raped by a female but I guess it's all in how the victim perceives it.

Not making light of this one bit. In fact, if we agree that rape is more about exerting power over someone rather than purely a sex act then it explains it that much more in this scenario.

As rare as it may be it doesn't change the fact that it can happen and is no less severe than female sexual assault.

One would think that being vaginally penetrated is more severe, but I say that without (thankfully) any experience in the matter. If a male feels raped by a female forcing him into an unwanted sexual act then it's rape in my book.

Again, let's not forget the power thing - rape is about exerting physical (and therefore sexual) dominance over another person. Taking away a person's freedom to choose to voluntarily participate in a sexual act, even if between two people of consensual age, is rape.

Either way, I'm definitely on board with this. But it's a new thing for me to get my head around. that's all.

You're assuming that the only thing a woman can do to a man is have his penis inside her. I've heard stories about various things being forced into anal cavities against the man's will.

It did go through my head but that's a clear case of invasive, physical assault so didn't feel the need to bring it up. Besides which, that can be done to a female as well.

What's your point? It's still the willful and unconsented penetration of a person - it still constitutes Rape.

Of course it is. I just assumed that was this was so clear to everone that it is beyond the need for discussion.

Well you're barking up the wrong tree then because I'm 100% in agreement with you.

It's a perception that'll take time to change. Just as the "she was asking for it" defence died in the 70s and 80s in the western world.

It didn't die quite as readily as you might think.

I guess there are still some old school judges around. But you can't argue that we are not a great deal more advanced than we were 30-40 years ago. Things have changed a great deal since those days.

I was once sexually assaulted by a hefty lass in an Irish pub, in Canada.
Her reason was that it was to make some other guy leave her alone.

Needless to say, I have not recovered.
