Quote:Transfer Rumour: de Silva being chased again
Swiss club Grasshoppers Zurich are the latest European club to join the chase for Perth Glory starlet Daniel de Sliva as he prepares for his first full season as a professional.
Already linked to English Premier League sides Everton and Manchester United, de Silva remains hot property months after his stunning goal for the Young Socceroos at the FIFA World Youth Championships. Despite signing a two-year deal with his hometown club during the off-season, the 16-year-old creative midfielder continues to field offers from a string of European suitors.
Glory coach Alistair Edwards is desperate to protect de Silva from the endless distractions, believing his development will be best served by remaining in the Hyundai A-League at least until he is 18. De Silva returned from Young Socceroos duty in Malaysia on Thursday, and depending on his fitness may yet be drafted into the Perth Glory squad for their season-opener against Adelaide United.
Grasshoppers - who have also been linked to Central Coast Mariners defender Trent Sainsbury - are hoping to sign de Silva in a co-ownership deal with an unnamed Italian Serie A club. It's understood Grasshoppers would be willing to loan de Silva back to the Glory before recalling him to Switzerland next season. http://www.footballaustralia.com.au/news-display/transfer-rumour--de-silva-being-chased-again/76983

As long as Edwards is in charge, he should stay at Perth and progress naturally. Needs to slowly break out this season and really hope to cement a place in the first xi next year.

I was wondering who the Italian club is when I read this. I'm guessing one of the top 6 or so teams. Inter? Udinese usually only loan a lot.

I thought he couldn't go to Europe until he was 18 or something?

If the deal comes with a season loan back at Perth Switzerland certainly looks like the best option of those rumoured. See how he plays this season first, of course.

Could be a good stepping stone. More likely to push for starting spot within the next 2 yrs there then at Man Utd or a bigger club.

Definitely should stay in the A-League for at least this season. Would benefit him alot more than playing academy games with Manchester United or something similar.

Moyes showed interest in him when he was managing Everton so is that where the Man U link comes from?

Dan_The_Red wrote:So much hype around this kid, haven't seen much yet. He just has it, the way he glides around the pitch, his ball control. The way he commands the ball. His confidence in his own ability, which a lot of kids his age don't have. If every junior in Australia coming through was like him, the future of the Socceroos would be in very good hands. I would have thought de Silva isnt Argentinian enough for Catania Is also a fair amount to pay for a 16 year old. Catania dont exactly have much money to spend either, most lower Serie A teams get by on co ownerships and 2-3 transfers a year.

Hopefully for Perth by January he has performed and it's closer to $2m. It will be interesting to see what happens with him.

Let him play for Perth for this season and see how good he is playing at the end. Then he could perhaps go overseas or stay another year.
