You know what's really messed up? They have to call the US for tech support.

Millions live below the poverty line in the U.S as well, don't see similar outrage at NASA

And they cut down on testing and training costs by using Kerbal Space Program.

Couple of facts from the Reddit thread on the matter;

1. India's Space organization receives only .34% of the governments budget.
2. The mission itself only costs around 27 Million US
3. The ISRO is also largely self funded through the sale of Satelite Imagery and etc.

I'd worry more about the billions on their nuclear program. The benefits of having a space program are well documented, but if it's even just to lift the spirits of people in the gutters but looking at the stars it's worth it.

I don't think it is money wasted. Things like this drive innovation and creative thinking, some of which can be later utilised on other things like fixing the poverty cycle in that country. The way I see it is that this is just another path towards the same destination.

I personally being to India and seeing the vast gulf in class between the poor and the rich would call it a disgrace, that amount of money is used on a space program for the sake of a space program instead of providing shelters and clean water for millions of civilians.

The fact that they can afford a space program and yet millions in India are without clean water and electricity. AND the fact that this is probably where most of Britian's financial aid went into.
