The match between Broadmeadow Magic and Brisbane Strikers on the opening night of the Westfield FFA Cup will be called live and commercial free on 1233 ABC Newcastle.
1233’s Grandstand team of Aaron Kearney, Phil Dando and Craig Hamilton will bring you all the action from Wanderers Oval (Magic Park) in Broadmeadow as Northern NSW Football NPL side Broadmeadow Magic hosts NSL champions Brisbane Strikers on Tuesday July 29 2014.

1233’s Local Content Manager Phil Ashley-Brown says it’s fitting that 1233 is there for this historic game.

“Aaron Kearney and Phil Dando have been calling the A-League since the inception of the Newcastle Jets and have built a massive following locally and internationally via our web stream,” Ashley-Brown said.

“It’s likely the FFA Cup will build an enormous following around Australia and 1233 is determined to give our audience the opportunity to be there from the start, just like we did with our very first A-League calls.”

“This new competition has been wildly anticipated by fans and Aaron and Phil’s calls will help to increase the profile of the FFA Cup and the sport both locally and around the world.”

“Craig Hamilton will join Aaron and Phil on sideline bringing his enormous skill, wit and experience from NRL calls to the round ball game.”

The game will be called live and commercial free from 7:15pm AEST on 1233 ABC Newcastle, at abc.net.au/newcastle or on the 1233 ABC Radio App.

1233’s coverage of the FFA Cup will continue on Tuesday August 5th when Perth Glory meet the Newcastle Jets at Magic Park.

I remember reading as such when they announced the FFA Cup. Was a poor decision then, and still is. They want to link "old soccer" with "new football" but only at the suburban grounds. No one will be able to watch it on TV.

I realise that not all grounds will be equipped with the necessary infrastructure to allow broadcasts, but still....its frustrating.

Fox Sports will cover the opening night of the Westfield FFA Cup. LIVE coverage commences at 7.00pm AEST on FOX SPORTS 3HD & 3 as Michael Zapppone is joined in the host studio by Hyundai A-League championship winner and current Sydney United 58 FC coach Mark Rudan to preview all four matches.

Simon Hill and Andy Harper will then call all of the action of Broadmeadow Magic against Brisbane Strikers from Wanderers Oval, while there will be Fox Sports presence at each of the other three venues – Mike Cockerill at Manly United v Sydney Olympic, Adam Peacock at South Springvale v South Cardiff, and Nick Meredith at Olympic FC v Melbourne Knights.

It is disappointing, even one game on Fox and another on SBS would have been great. Really why didn't the FFA do that?

Because SBS didn't bid for the rights and Foxtel did. And Fox obviously don't believe it is worth the cost to set up for mutiple matches which is a shame.
