I cant see how the FFA missed this goal. From halfway and hits the underside of the crossbar.

This is already goal of the tournament. It will take a tremendous one to beat this.

Blundstone Arena confirmed as Westfield FFA Cup Home Venue

We can confirm that Blundstone Arena is South Hobart Football Club's venue of choice should we draw an FFA Cup home game.

Whilst we appreciate Blundstone is an oval, the opportunity was just too good to give up. Yes South Hobart FC fully supports Tasmania acquiring it's own rectangular stadium, but currently we do not have one with appropriate lighting.

The facilities are world class, the staff at Blundstone are very supportive, the comfort of both spectators and players is second to none.

The facts are this:
If we draw an A-League team then there are only two venues suitable in Tasmania to play the game. One is Aurora Stadium and the other is Blundstone. Hyundai A-League teams must play at a broadcast quality venue. The minimum Lux of the lights required is 500. Blundstone has 2,400 Lux. North Hobart Oval does not have a high enough Lux and nor does KGV.

Initially, we thought that Blundstone Arena would be out of our reach financially but the package put together for the club was fabulous.

If we draw another NPL club yes we could have played at KGV but at Blundstone every spectator gets a seat out of the weather. There are corporate facilities and we have the ability to host a club function prior to the game. There are big screens. Comfort for all. One change room at Blundstone is the size of all the changerooms at KGV. Quite frankly who would give up the opportunity of playing where world class cricket is played?

Spectators will be surprised how close the Ricky Ponting stand is to the football field. You will have an amazing view, a comfortable seat and everything that quite frankly football fans in Tasmania deserve.

So we urge you to come along and support football. You may not like us, you may even dislike us, but we know you love football. So if the opportunity arises get along and show your support for the game we all love.

Well, that convinces me. Hope they get a home game!

Regarding your post on the other thread. I'm not a fan of clubs moving to the bigger grounds. It ruins the whole sense of occasion for these clubs when they have to play at a empty mega stadium. It was hardly surprising to see the massive backlash from the Olympic FC (QLD) community when they had to host CCM at QEII instead of Goodwin Park where they hosted Knights.

Part of the excitement of cups is that you get to host these top players on the very ground you play on each week. As a fan you want the likes of Berisha or Broich to have to show they can perform despite the shit facilities and dodgy lighting. It's all about bringing the stars down to the average blokes level and it's why cups are so popular.

Should A-League clubs be able to stadium downgrade for matches against A-League teams?

You make a totally fair point and I see what you're saying. I think it's great to see the pros have to show what they can do at the same environment that the semi pros do their thing in, but I think it's also great for the game that the FFA Cup is a platform for State League clubs to step up and excel on a higher level and build for their future. Who knows, maybe the stadium won't be so empty? Sky is the limit for some of these clubs, don't deny them that.

I think a good balance will be met as it was last year with the clubs finding their way in this new comp.

We have a national cup comp uniting the tiers for the first time ever, the first national football competition of any code. How good is that?

Melbourne City shipping out their first ever competitive match (even though it was against a reasonably high drawing opposition in Sydney FC) to Ballarat.

Palm Beach and Darwin Olympic are through to the 32. Unfortunately it was a late strike that denied Noosa. Unfortunate because Sunshine Coast would have been awesome but guess we have to settle for the Gold Coast. Noosa had a chance from the penalty spot but missed.

For Darwin it was just a matter of numbers. 4 nil at half time and 5 nil at the end.
