Having personally played at what I consider to be a pretty high level, my belief on waste-grabbing and various other things is you give more than you get. You stamp your authority on the game and let the opposing player know that you're up for his shit & will come back worse. I once played against a former Socceroo and by the 80th minute we had each other in sleeperholds, all without the refs noticing the constant abuse (physically and verbally) we were throwing at each other

Football, particularly at high levels, is way way more ugly than widely believed to be

Which ex-Socceroo?

I've played on the same field as an ex-Socceroo who let everyone know he was an ex NT player and constantly reminded the players of it.

He was the referee.

Ask to be wined and dined first. You're no slut.

They're grabbing your waste? Gross, dude.

What's it doing on the field anyway? Surely that's a red card offence?

I'm a chirper. First time I ask them on a date loudly. Second time I get the ref involved. If nothing appends, then shit hits the fan.

"If you keep touching me like that you're going to have to pay by the hour" or "Don't start something you can't finish, big boy"

I always use "I don't think you can touch a 17 year old like that." They freak the fuck out.

The Rules
Quote:
Holding an opponent
Holding an opponent includes the act of preventing him from moving past or
around using the hands, the arms or the body.
Referees are reminded to make an early intervention and to deal fi rmly with
holding offences especially inside the penalty area at corner kicks and free
kicks.
To deal with these situations:
• the referee must warn any player holding an opponent before the ball is in
play
• caution the player if the holding continues before the ball is in play
• award a direct free kick or penalty kick and caution the player if it happens
once the ball is in play
If a defender starts holding an attacker outside the penalty area and continues
holding him inside the penalty area, the referee must award a penalty kick.
Disciplinary sanctions
• A caution for unsporting behaviour must be issued when a player holds
an opponent to prevent him gaining possession of the ball or taking up an
advantageous position
• A player must be sent off if he denies an obvious goalscoring opportunity
by holding an opponent
• No further disciplinary action must be taken in other situations of holding
an opponent
Restart of play
• Direct free kick from the position where the offence occurred (see Law 13
– Position of free kick) or a penalty kick if the offence occurred inside the
penalty area

Maybe they are trying to feel what your packing ;)

Seriously though I would give their arm a solid karate chop, don't make it obvious, just in the motion of running.

Have to face a serial shirt puller body grabber , his face is always at your elbow when he grabs you around the waste would be easy to hit with your elbow and look like a running motion. Hate teaching this but i hate shirt serial pullers just because they are slow and lack ability and vision.
