I honestly can't believe this show is still going on. It was fun for the first few series, but like most reality TV, it got pretty repetitive, and boring fairly quickly.

A lot of the places where they're 'surviving' is nice, tropical places. Ideal for a holiday. Essentially, that's what the 'contestants' are getting. The producers aren't going to let them starve to death, or let any real serious harm come to them. It's a glorified holiday, they all get a nice paycheck in return for getting a bit muddy and living of basic rations for a few weeks.

The only way I'd tune in and watch another episode, let alone a season if they did 'Survivor: Baghdad', Survivor: Remote Afghanistan-Pakistan border or 'Survivor: Mogadishu'.

That'd be fun. Watching a bunch of cashed up American's survive in places where the might of the U.S military can't save them. :lol:

One reality 'survivor' show I'd tune in regularly for, would be to take the worst of the worst criminals, rapists, pedo's, murderers, terroists, etc. Give them each a Glock pistol with a 3 bullets, a single hand grenade, and a Bowie knife, drop them onto a remote island (Tasmania, perhaps :P ) and make them fight each other to the death. The sole survivor them must face off against a Lion, or Tiger or ferocious bear which has been starved for several weeks (insert animal right's whinging here), with nothing but a steak knife for defence. If he/she defeats hungry and ferocious animal, they win $1 million, and bail. However, in a twist of events, just before their release, their bail gets revoked and they get sent back to jail and the money goes to charity (WWF, or something to appease the animal rights activist who were up in arms about them fighting an animal).

Or just turn stadiums into temporary coliseums and host gladiatorial conquests. Now there's a live sport which would pack out week in week out!

I'd rather watch two teams of 20 people from Australian Football and State Football on a desert island.

I used to watch it, but now I only use Foxtel unless it's sport.

What is Survivor?

Survivor is the American version of the Survivor reality game show, itself derived from the Swedish television series Expedition Robinson originally created in 1997 by Charlie Parsons. The series premiered on May 31, 2000, on CBS. It is hosted by television personality Jeff Probst, who is also an executive producer, and also executive produced by Mark Burnett and original creator, Charlie Parsons.

The show maroons a group of strangers (as one or more tribes) in a desolate locale, where they must provide food, water, fire, and shelter for themselves, while competing in challenges to earn either a reward, or an immunity from expulsion from the game in the next of the successive votes for elimination. While much less common than elimination by vote, medical conditions, such as injury or infection, have eliminated several contestants. The last two or three survivors face a jury composed of the last seven, eight, or nine players voted off. That jury interrogates the final few, and then votes for the winner of the game, the title of Sole Survivor and a million dollar prize.
