Quote:Saudi Arabia criticises Norway over human rights record Felicity Morse Tuesday 29 April 2014 Saudi Arabia has criticised Norway's human rights record, accusing the country of failing to protect its Muslim citizens and not doing enough to counter criticism of the prophet Mohammed. The gulf state called for all criticism of religion and of prophet Mohammed to be made illegal in Norway. It also expressed concern at “increasing cases of domestic violence, rape crimes and inequality in riches” and noted a continuation of hate crimes against Muslims in the country. The Scandinavian nation came under scrutiny during the United Nations' Universal Periodic Review, in which 14 States are scheduled to have their human rights records examined. Russia meanwhile called for Norway to clamp down on expressions of religious intolerance and and criticised the country’s child welfare system. They also recommended that Norway improve its correctional facilities for those applying for asylum status. Norwegian Foreign Minister Børge Brende was in Geneva to hear the concerns from 91 other countries. He told Norway's NTB newswire prior to the hearing: “It is a paradox that countries which do not support fundamental human rights have influence on the council, but that is the United Nations,” reported The Local. Human Rights Watch last report noted that in 2012 Saudi Arabia "stepped up arrests and trials of peaceful dissidents, and responded with force to demonstrations by citizens." It continued "Authorities continue to suppress or fail to protect the rights of 9 million Saudi women and girls and 9 million foreign workers. As in past years, thousands of people have received unfair trials or been subject to arbitrary detention. The year has seen trials against half-a-dozen human rights defenders and several others for their peaceful expression or assembly demanding political and human rights reforms." http://www.independent.co.uk/news/saudi ... 01796.html

A medieval-styled theocracy with one of the worst human rights records in the world criticises a country with one of the best human rights records over human rights? And of course Russia, A country which is resembling a totalitarian state more and more by the day, chirps in too. And people wonder why the aliens haven't made contact with us yet.

It's not that bad. The UN asked countries to comment on and provide recommendation on Norway's human rights record and practices. Whether right or wrong, they took up the invitation to provide input, which in itself seems a good process.

Dont think any person in their right mind would want to pick Saudi Arabia over Norway as a place to live in LMAO +1 No offence but Saudi Arabia should be talking about intolerance to other religions or people.

Australia is not much better at Human Rights and Discrimination at the moment either. Go and check Victoria's Criminal Disclosure policy as opposed to the rest of the country's Laws. I didn't create the below thread for no reason. http://au.fourfourtwo.com/forums/default.aspx?g=posts&t=88699Even our own code has Discrimination issues that still may end up in court: http://au.fourfourtwo.com/forums/default.aspx?g=posts&t=90954Edited by wamackie: 1/5/2014 03:23:51 PM

Nothing to see here, Comrade Ricecrackers. no really? you think Russia is more totalitarian than when it was the Soviet Union? you prefer it then when millions were exterminated? Hell no. But just because it isn't as bad as it was pre-1991 doesn't mean it's ok. For all of Putin's talk about democracy, Russia still behaves like a totalitarian dictatorship to its people and neighbours. But if it makes you feel better, Stalin was far worse. Which is like saying you'd make a better husband than Geoffrey Dahmer.
