"Jew" is a term that refers to a group of people identified by their culture and religion. It is not, in and of itself, offensive- even if it has been appropriated at times to be.

Using "Jew" as a joke in the context of a German national representation however, has a high likelihood of offending due to historical reasons. It doesn't even take a half-wit (much less a genius) to realise that doing so is a bad idea.
