Yeah don't bother comparing WSW membership numbers from the same time last year. Last year membership renewals started June 6 and went till July 4. Membership renewals this year didn't start until July 18.

Then there's also the fact that last season we only had 7,500 members when renewals came around so most of the action was when general public sales started. This year almost everything will be during the renewal stage and the fact that members know they have a month to renew means they're in no rush.

The HE issues .. are Home End issues and reactions of the various groups to FFA decisions pertaining to seating and memberships etc ..

However what I did not know before was how late the WSW & MV packages went out ...

Roar, AU, City , SFC are up considerably compared to a similar time last season ... If we assume the Nix especially after the West Ham match lift their numbers we could be in for a record membership season... lets hope so ..

According to Pignata we hit 6k at close of business. Well on track for 9k+ before the season commences, could go better with a win in the Cup and a quality player signing for even more positivity.

Total 45,567

WSW, MV & Jets all well down on last season and the three clubs with the most HE issues ...

Interesting, though what do you mean by 'HE' issues? :-k

I think, thankfully, we see the context as to why some clubs are down - the likes of WSW releasing their packs a fair bit later and some bureaucratic lag still under-way there. They're not the only ones either. Given the still hot demand for the short-supply there, expect another quick acceleration up by another few thousand, as a few fans have already mooted, above.

Brisbane roar on track for 15 or 16k

That would be extra-ordinary, given where they've come from, but same time, it's actually possible, given the improvement undertaken up there and the dividends that improved process and approach have already paid!

The next update from Roar will obviously reflect how the growth in numbers is still trending. I can't imagine it would increase too much more, given that the 8k is from three months or so of sign ups, but just exceeding 10k (Their target of last season) would be phenomenal in itself. I think 11-12k is realistic and reflects their steady but growing core of support, which has been hovering around 13k the last few seasons. Hopefully their home average bumps up accordingly to mid-late teens this season (Season 2/3 levels)!

I'm not up to speed, but surely the redeveloped Adelaide Oval has this in their designs and I'm fairly sure that plans for the redevelopment of Subi Oval (Currently on-hold) also had 'rectangle re-configuration' as a feature. So I guess there may be some hope on the horizon, which is atleast better than the no hope of before!

And if our cities finally have stadiums fit for the Socceroos, then they will certainly be for the Malagas, Evertons, Melbourne Victory derbies, Asian Champions League finals, A-League Grand Finals etc...!

Edited by GloryPerth: 22/7/2014 05:08:44 PM

Ur Def not up to speed! Subiaco oval redevlopment was deemed unsuitable a couple years back. New perth stadium design released a few days ago at Burswood. No retractable seating. Only bump in seats. I have no doubt that the sight lines will be some of the best in Australia. But no retractable seating is a disappointment. And AO doesn't have retractable seating. New perth stadium to be finished early 2018. Def suitable for socceroos. 2018 WC farewell game would be a great first socceroos match(if we qualify) http://www.perthstadium.com.au

Edited by perthglory#1: 23/7/2014 02:25:54 AM

Ah thanks for that perthglory#1. Ah yes, the Burswood Stadium - how could I forget! Damn, that's a real shame and as Gyfox discusses follow up, that seems no good. Again, Perth fans short-changed. They always like to 'claim' as part of it's proud Multi-Use capabilities that it can host 'Soccer' matches, but in reality, like Heart Fan suggested, odds are stacked against us anyway, for practical/commercial/strategic reasons, but also if our stadiums still aren't as great for this code as the likes of top-class rectangle venues like Suncorp. That's Perth Stadium's competition for the rectangle code.

Granted, hope still remains...

Heart_fan wrote:
^^ In regards to sight lines at the stadium, so it should really if its a brand new venue :)

It is a pity though that no moveable seats were added to the design. It is focused 90% towards AFL usage anyway, but for the amount of $$ invested, it could have been a better asset to appeal to more events.

As for socceroos matches in Perth, the downside to the FFA is that most of the govt investment in the game is on the east coast (ie. NSW/Vic/Qld so far willing to pay more for the matches), along with a larger corporate presence and also a more favourable timezone for the majority of the Australian population "over east".

A great venue alone only helps if the required incentive package comes with it.

Edited by heart_fan: 23/7/2014 09:47:18 AM

...that's true, but Perth could still be an option for second-tier kind of Socceroos games, the kind of games we see every few years, like 'Asian Cup Qualifiers' and the like. These are the kinds of games that the likes of Canberra have hosted before. A game every 4-5 years is not a big ask, especially if it's only a lesser name Mid-East side or the likes of Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia or whoever.

The Sydney market in-particular, well arguably suffers from over-saturation to a degree and the 'consumer fatigue' (Drop in Socceroos crowd numbers, relative to peaks years circa Pim era) seems to reflect that? A sharing of the load for lower drawing games and a little more scarcity for Sydney's fans may help bump up the big-drawing fixtures Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne do get to host? :-k

Sydney FC number is actually about $1k better than it was this time last year. And we haven't even announced our marquee for this season yet either, so i would settle down a bit for now.

Let's see what happens. I predict we'll probably end up at around 9-10k by the start of the season which would be quite good considering the drivel we dished up last year and the fact that ADP is no longer with us.

With the names you've been linked to I wouldn't be counting on a marquee bringing in a huge number of members before the season.

Until only a half hour ago the only real name we were linked to that i knew of was Ameobi. however after reading the latest quotes made by Arnold, seems as though a few other players have been targeted.

Would have to agree though, none of these players like Janko or Hoarau or Zamora would really sell memberships. i know w'ere focusing on a striker but i would have liked for us to have gone for a player more like a no 10. Cambiasso would have been a good fit. And a very well recognised player amongst football fans.
