Didn't Perth release their memberships very, very late last year. Perhaps this information is a little deceptive? They've put together a nice squad with I think one signing to come so I think most people will know by now if they're going to sign up or not, I can't imagine too many spikes to come for Perth, such as those that clubs experience when signing a player etc., more just a gradual build towards their tally

Deluka, you aren't wrong and that's all part of the positive spin of the marketing departments of all clubs. Fair enough and so they should really. Mind you, yes, Glory are coming from a low base and still have alot of room for improvement, I'm sure. This may sound a backhanded compliment, but atleast they have their memberships and related info out 'relatively early' for this season. Even a man and his dog could see that the handling of memberships last season was a schmozzle and issues related to memberships were amongst the chief concerns noted by fans as identified by Glory themselves.

They SHOULD see a natural increase on memberships, just on this alone. Whether it will push to higher numbers, that seems a little less likely and, like most clubs, should be performance/results driven to a degree.

The club have built a strong squad - now much more laden with experience and perhaps quality, than before. The talented youth are still there too. It's obviously all on Lowe to get this squad he's largely built performing to a level we fans expect. He needs to surprise us all - he should be expected to, given he was the pick of the 'world-wide search'! If the team stumbles too far then the pressure should be on thick and hopefully it's second-time lucky come the next 'world-wide search' for a coach?

Swarth, it IS a little strange I guess - I mean your club had a neat little net campaign, with that banner reflecting the growing support for Wanderers. People were sharing it here. He really helped to reflect momentum and buzz and we all saw it as the membership ballooned to astounding levels!

Edit, seems it was via FB, here is an example from last year's thread:

I think we'll see increases in membership this season at Adelaide, on the back of a decent season, Perth with heaps of good signings and healthy optimism, Melbourne City for the very obvious reasons, and hopefully Brisbane Roar winning more fans through having continued success. Hopefully Victory, Wanderers & Sydney FC can maintain their membership base. Wellington I'm unsure of, no idea what they're doing off field across the ditch. But the 2 sides that really worry me are the Mariners and the Jets. The Mariners seem to be slipping on field, which will probably have an impact on membership, and we all know the issues that Newcastle are facing, both off field and now on it with selling their best young players, and having a new coach. I hope they can sign some good players to replace what they've lost.

Certainly seems a good start - though may be deceptive, given Victory's large base... but still, the 'Melb City Effect' could be kicking in cross-town too - as many of us suspected. City becoming a genuine challenger/threat, including with more fans off the field, should surely stimulate the rivalry and even prospects for Victory too - not unlike the Wanderers/SFC example, both benefiting there?

Hopefully gains in that area, including with the improved performance of Victory under Muscat late last season, may offset an unfortunate, but predicted, drop off in active support?

Apparently Jerks memberships don't officially go on sale until this upcoming Wednesday, so that 822 number is solely the amount of people who had bothered to sort out their renewal beforehand. I expect the numbers to pick up dramatically over the next fortnight, so am not overly worried about the "low" number yet.

I think its important to look at the YoY comparisons, but only if the dates that memberships went on sale correlates with the year prior.

If we look at the numbers at initial viewing though, Melb City YoY are double last year, whilst MV are down by 2000 at the same point. From a growth perspective, that is still an interesting stat.

What is interesting though is that MV really have no big remaining cards to play, given all its marquee spots are already filled. Melbourne City on the other hand have both of its marquee spots free, and are still chasing some big names to fill them, which could well provide a significant boost. Add in the possibility of Lampard coming to the club, that adds some added interest.

Still interesting times, and one that may take a few years to really see big inroads, but one does have to feel that the potential is there to close that gap over time these days with the ambition that Melb City are now displaying.

Realistically though, given all the events that have transpired this year with HSG losing control of the Knights and rumoured to be attempting to sell the jets, it would be expected that the numbers would drop this year.

Would be great to see, just to see how clubs are going. I left my re-newel late because of bills, etc, so you can never tell early on, but Melbourne City are looking good already. For me, Roar Memberships aint the main thing, just as long as our average attendance keeps rising, ill be happy.

Melbourne City are now at 5006 which is a great achievement.

As for the breakdown in renewals vs new members, from what I have seen there is a solid mix of both. Some former members are still holding out, jaded by the changes made, however the take up from friends of those who have renewed has been solid also.

Having a player like Villa on board adds that interest, and if Lampard comes it would be even bigger really, as the EPL factor is certain to generate significant buzz.

Add in the 2 marquees to come, this will still leave room for Melb City to grow further once they are announced.

After so much success, this is definitely the time Brisbane should be maximising membership and attendances. Can only hope they can continue to build both of those metrics.

Hopefully Clinton can paste an updated post of the breakdown, come new page or so, will be interesting.

I have a sneaking suspicion, I could be wrong, that the growth trend has slowed a little lately? Maybe my eyes deceiving, but the break-down should reveal the truth. I think it's natural if there's a slow up and this ties to the speculation above.

If Lampard is indeed confirmed, then no doubt a second bubble will form and another 2-3k jumping onto the band-wagon, so to speak.

Like SFC - how much 'real growth' is being achieved is something we can't tell till the post-ADP and post-Villa/Lampard periods etc.. ofcourse. Though SFC show positive signs in this regard and City may well too, if they 'do the right things' this coming season. So there's less 'bubble' and more genuine, sustained, growth.

Yeah, not immediately - 18-20k members is just a bridge too far. I still think a level similar to SFC's, seems about right - so 11-12k. There will be an inevitable plateauing of the growth, even WITH a Lampard and co - especially given how long this off/pre-season is - there will have to be peaks and troughs in the growth and also, like all clubs, an inevitable slow down after the initial take up, after most existing members have renewed etc... as people have already discussed.
