Belgium v South K

South K certainly had the individual technique to match Belgium, one of the world's better teams ATM, maintaining possession well and gaining territory up to the attacking third, but some minute factors made a difference.

Often in the marking of individual Belgian players, SK were fractionally too slow to apply pressure, in getting close enough to the Belgian player receiving the ball from back to front. This enabled the Belgian players to turn effectively, and at times beat their marker, through effective positioning and effective turning technique.

When in scoring positions, even though the combination play was often good, SK struggled with the final pass or shot. The Belgian defensive structure was often cohesive, maintaining good distancing between and within the lines.

SK also mistimed some tackles in the middle of the park, when they should shave jockeyed and delayed. The mistimed tackle meant the team was sometimes left exposed, as it sometimes occurred when there was no teammate in close proximity.

Both teams kept the middle of the pitch covered, most of the time maintaining shape. It showed that most of the Belgian players played for big teams in Europe in terms of making the most of their attacking opportunities.

Once Belgium scored , they deployed an effective half press, with a 1-4-4-1 formation in BPO.
