In an old football forum I used to mod we always used it as a short handed arrow to represent player to club. There has been no follow up today on this, perhaps Arnie is taking a little time to decide after all :P On this forum we use: Alessandro Del Piero OUT ---------------> Marc Janko IN Edited by pv4: 24/7/2014 02:51:36 PM

Hoarau again has a bit of height and has a good scoring ratio, but again a marquee he is not. You're saying a player won't sign because a team did shit in a a second preseason game? Wow. Hopefully the WSW's marquee prospects weren't watching their performance against Macarthur. Isn't that Saba guy their new marquee? Noooooo

What do you consider a marquee then? Someone with a recognisable name i.e played in the premier league? He looked a lot more technically sound than Ameobi to me, has a better scoring record. I would probably go for a more technical/creative type but Arnie is clearly looking at a big # 9 and I'm pretty happy he is looking for someone to fit his system TBH. If Berisha can be a marquee then I don't see why Janko can't, particularly considering his wage is going to be north of $1million.

Janko is not a marquee, he is huge though and could be useful, but no marquee. Ameobi is really the only one thats available that you could call a marquee. There are another 5 names in the mix according to the article, some with higher profile names: Shola Ameobi, Guillaume Hoarau, Bobby Zamora, Louis Saha, Eduardo Zamora did just sign a new one year deal with QPR so i don't see that happening now. Saha actually retired from football last year so it would be a interesting move to try and get him out of retirement. Edited by volrath2002: 23/7/2014 03:23:20 PM If they are talking about Croatian international Eduardo, he signed with Flamengo in Brazil. That only leaves Janko, Ameobi and Hoarau as possible signings.

FoxSports is reporting this afternoon that Mark Janko is the front-runner for the Sydney FC Marquee squad spot. Article link: http://www.foxsports.com.au/football/a-league/sydney-fc-close-to-signing-austrian-marc-janko-as-marquee-to-replace-alessandro-del-piero/story-e6frf4gl-1226998729986The Austrian is coming off a couple of seasons in Turkey with Trabzonspor after spells with FC Twente and Porto. He is best known for his time back in Austria with Red Bull Salzburg which saw him become a regular for the national team and a leading goal scorer in multiple Austrian Bundesliga seasons. He is a solid front man who is very good in the air, given his height you would hope so too. It could be a very good signing for Sydney FC, though does he fulfil the point of an International Marquee? He is a good player, proven in Europe and at international level. He is only 31, certainly a lot younger than what Sydney FC normally go for. But his name value is nowhere near as high as an ADP. But an ADP does not come onto the market every day. So it seems to me Arnold is using this uncapped squad spot to fulfil a weakness in his team. Could be a very smart move.
