There are some great female comedy writers, but they just don't seem to be able to do it on stage. Don't even get me started on Lisa Lampanelli, Garfunkel and Oates or the absolutely terrible "comedy" of Amy Schumer. That Amy Schumer show might be the worst comedy show I've ever witnessed.
If Joan Rivers is the pinnacle... Fark me. Sarah Silverman is awful. As are aussie comedians like Judith Lucy and Fiona O'Loughin. I guess because stand up comedians tell jokes about what they know and jokes about 'women things' aren't really that funny. Amy Schumer is very hit and miss. She can be hilarious or downright cringeworthy. Hannah Gadsby isn't bad. One definitely worth checking out is Iliza Shlesinger. I think a lot of the reasons women aren't that funny is because of their delivery and stage presence. When she's on stage she acts kind of...manly. And is damn good.

Women can be funny but female comedians are generally pretty dire. Jillian Bell is hilarious in Workaholics and in the ep of Curb Your Enthusiasm she was in but other than her I can't think of any other female comedians that I'd say are funny

My best female friend is very funny, but I do agree in general that women are less funny in men.
The rule the BBC have imposed on panel show annoys me, that there has to be at least one female on each panel show. For shows like QI/Mock The Week, this can be painful. Sue Perkins/Jo Brand/Sandi Toskvig are normally pretty good on QI, but the majority of the other females are average at best.

I watched a special by Kathleen Madigan last night after Lewis Black gave her wraps. Chuckled a few times, but not much. Kathleen Madigan - Going To The Gym (Stand up Com…: http://youtu.be/WrmZsJI-a7w

Tina Fey & Amy Poehler usually leave my in stitches.
I love some of Sarah Silverman's standup stuff, she's got some great ammo. One of the best comedy things I've watched was the James Franco Roast in which Silverman & Natasha Leggero were pretty freaking funny in.
I've seen on Spicks & Specks as well as the odd youtube clip a ventriloquist who I think her name was Nina (cbf googling), and she had some great stuff too.

Notor doesn't strike me as the guy that tries to trick women into sleeping with them. There are plenty of other posters on this forum that fit that bill  -PB

"trick women into sleeping with them" sounds a bit white knightey of you, Draups... Other than exposing your lovely ignorance, of course. It's really interesting that you appear to not credit women with the ability to make up their own minds about who their sexual partners are.
If you'd like to discuss your misunderstandings of what TRP (or misunderstandings of any other philosophy) is though, take it back to the Philosophy Thread where it belongs. It's quite unnecessary to bring it up in every thread, and makes you look like a bit of an obsessed wanker :)
This thread is not about TRP, it's about whether women are funny or not.

Comedy is art, and really depends on your taste. There are a fair few female comedians i find funny. Most listed above already (inc. Amy Shumer. I like her show).
To be fair there are millions of unfunny blokes, and the ones that think they are funny but arnt end up on commercial radio to torture our ears

I just saw a post on Facebook complaining about women's clothing not having enough functional pockets being a significant barrier to gender equality. Because fashion and design is a male dominated field. Apparently. Is this the new TRP thread? There is no TRP thread. Ironically perhaps, for all the obsessing over giving me shit for TRP, you're pretty much the only one that has empirically stated that women can't be funny on stage. Apart from the whole Whoopi Goldberg thing where I say that she's a good stand up comedian, you're spot on. Don't worry though mate, if you think the situation of me saying that women aren't great as stand-up comedians is comparable to you subscribing to a philosophy that has followers that discuss ways to trick women into sleeping with them, then you're more of a lost cause than I'd expected. And the philosophy thread is TRP thread. What an absolute insult to the whole idea of philosophy that was.

Jane Kennedy as part of the Late Show crew is good.
Rita Rudner used to make me laugh a bit also. And the original Fast Forward crew, with the girls, weren’t too bad for a laugh either.

As always, Hitch had a point
He was a man of specific quirks. He believed that all meals should be earned through physical effort. He also contended, zealously like a drunk with a political point, that the third dimension would not be possible if it werent for the existence of water.

No! I tell my wife this all the time.
Nothing worse than watching a comedy gala and a woman comes out. Women are great and do alot of great things, but can they be funny, No!
