My favourite that I own is probably my tc electronic hall of fame reverb. it's a tone god.

My dream pedals?

I'm almost at my ideal collection - just a few more pieces to put together for now.

I'm looking at finding an affordable delay with tap tempo and a few delay types. it's a difficult mix to accommodate.

Im also looking for a decent reverb and delay vox pedal for live sound. Has anyone tried out the tc helicon range?

I play a Fender Stratocaster and love a good crunchy blues sound. There are two mainstay pedals that are always in my rig no matter what.

- Boss BD-2 Blues Driver

Been with me for years and i have no intention of replacing it. Just guarantees you a lovely crunchy tone for those blues .

-Dunlop Crybaby Jerry Cantrell

Killer tone and great consistency through the sweep.

I'm also a massive fan of the Ibanez Tubescreamer and the Way Huge Aqua Puss for delay.

I run an Epiphone G-400 into a 40 watt Hiwatt combo. Predominantly play doom, stoner, heavy rock, blues rock and various other forms of metal, when I'm more capable I'll get into the more technical metal styles.

My current pedals are:

- Boss TU3 (Tuner)
- Boss FZ-2 Hyper Fuzz (Fuzz)
- Greenhouse Sludgehammer (Fuzz/Distortion)
- Greenhouse Retro Sky (Delay)
- MXR Phase 90 (Phaser)

All the pedals are great and do exactly what I expect of them. Love the Retro Sky's inbuilt phaser us awesome. The MXR shits me as its only battery operated where as the others can be powered by a power pack, still a great pedal though.

Once I get some money together (just bought a new guitar so it might take a while) I want to buy a Strymon Blue Sky. Would love to get a Big Sky but they cost a bit to much, probably look at getting a pedal for blues and a wah pedal after that.

Use an Axe-FX, so all my effects are in that. It's the goods. :d

how do you find the greenhouse delay? im looking at picking up a delay soon, i want something with tap tempo.

the jerry cantrell is great. there's a really good youtube video about how they rigged it up.

i'm working on a ambient drone folk/post rock kind of thing. basically i like progressive psychadelic noise.

i just had a look, it looks serious. do you have a control board that you operate it from? or do you preset the whole thing?

I think its pretty awesome, can get pretty trippy. The inbuilt phaser is a great addition to it. Doesnt have tap tempo though.

What I run live and pretty much home too these days :

Maton Mastersound/Fender Jag

Vox AC30 usually “jumped”

ProCo Rat (the reissue of the original) – this is the best thing I have ever bought pedal wise. This and the AC30 is just so versatile I barely use anything else I just love the tone so much

Big Muff – have a love/hate with this pedal. So so dirty but tend to use it now just for extra sustain in solos

RC Booster – pretty much used only for extra cut through in solos but I actually love using it just to send the AC30 into extra distortion

H20 Liquid Chorus/Echo – great great pedal and just suits what I play. Wouldn’t recommend it for anyone who wants crazy fun delay sounds but what it does it does well

MXR Phase 100 – sometimes have it on subtly for whole songs/sets or just crank it to get whacky sounds in say a final outro of a show etc

Boss Tuner - I mean it seems silly mentioning it but probably the most important pedal of them all

that sounds great, rather epic.. really nice to see a video with someone who knows what he is looking for in the pedal sound.

when i checked it out earlier i thought the phaser seemed gimmicky. but then you hear it and it's really cool.

all i want is something as capable as this with tap tempo- that isnt gonna set me back $500. it just seems that all the top end kind of stuff has heaps of gadgetry that i wont use.

how do you find the maton?

Love it. It's the one I play 90% of the time. Not sure if it's just because I have had it for so long now or what but it just has a great feel. It's solid as all hell and quite heavy but I like that. It's a good all round gig guitar being so reliable and pretty varied pick up selection sounds

Also, I just realised you didn't want to spend too much so I probably wouldnt have suggested the electro-harmonix but it really is a great pedal. It has this reverse mode so it's like playing backwards guitar live which sounds pretty cool if you use the blend to keep it with the normal sound

i have two main guitars.............my baby is a 1968 fender telecaster with hand wound bare knuckle pick ups.......the tele is original other than the pick ups (which i have stashed) and finished in nitro cellulose, my second guitar is a gibson les paul double cutaway 1998 finished in nitro cellulose jalepeno green, alnico pick ups......really nice guitar as well......

i play through a hand made point to point cloth wired AC30 i built myself with original components i sources from the states, parts alone cost me $2,200.00 bucks.....i have coupled this amp with a 2 x 12 ....15 watt paper cone celestion blue backs, i have two of these 2 x 12 cabinets i built myself.......depending on what i have to do.........my effects are via a Digidesign 11 rack controlled with a Behringer FCB1010 midi foot controller that i have fitted with the Eureka sound 11 rack Eprom......

rips serious arse and its very very flexible, for live or studio work......not to mention the inerface capabilities when coupled with protools...................

I have the EXACT same set up with 11Rack (same controller and chip) at home I use mainly for recording with protools too!!

I used it at a few gigs (which is why I originally got the foot controller) but ended up getting worried about it despite buying a case etc but mainly I just wasn't using it for anything really other than a few basic sounds that I could get out of easier to cart around pedals coz once I bought the Vox I liked it's tone so much I wasn't using hardly any of the amp emulation stuff

I'd dearly love to hear that amp of yours though that's for sure!!

Oh and original 68 tele? I'd sell my left nut for one of that vintage

Unfortunately I just shelled out shit loads of cash for a Yamaha Clavinova (electric piano) so it is going to be quite a while before I make another music related purchase!!!

Edit - did I say unfortunately? Scrap that. I am completely in love with it and don't regret it for a second ha ha

so what made you opt for a rack over individual pedals?

Ive got this big arse boss multi effects pedal (me 70) that im in and out of love with. i got it because of the versatility but i really needed a decent wah and reverb because the boss lacked any depth in there.

do you have any similar issue with the rack?

btw i have spent hours watching these they are great. there's a whole heap of guitarists on there to check out. some of the best setups ive seen so far;

funny you should say that since you started using the AC30 you felt that you loved the tone so much, it's true they are awesome amps ESPECIALLY the one i built NO IC boards, top quality filter caps, makes a huge difference.......

Yes the tele i have i bought when i was in san francisco for $800 U.S. i have had it since 1996 and had it valued at around $8,000.................\:d/ \:d/ \:d/ \:d/ \:d/

Did you know that the majority of Led Zepplin songs were recorded on a telecaster?? so many studio and session musos record with telecasters and AC30's.......

i only use my 11 rack for studio work OR accents in particular parts of songs......

Also have a Mini Maton with bunya pine top, 1972 IBANEZ PF100 les paul with seymour duncan pickups (heaviest guitar i have ever held and great for the E flat tuning stuff we do), ARIA "F" hole with bigsby, fender precision bass, and a crappy strat that i hot wire and change for weird shit and it doesn't matter it i toast or roast the shitbox,

not at all, the 11 rack is extremely versatile, when you spend the time to understand the signal path, as i did when i was building my AC30 and read the specs of the 11 rack you then see the limitless option you have, Firstly with pedals you have power and cable issues, like every power supply and lead is a point of failure, when you are playing you can change the signal path, meaning you can't without massive inconvenience change the oder of the pedals, IE: wah,delay,compressor to delay , graphic, discombobulator ETC.....once you pedals are plugged you are set, with the 11 racks EACH preset can have the effcet you require in a different order to suit your needs, also the expression pedal can be programmed for different purposes, most people associate the expression pedal with the WAH, but it can be programmed to vary say a delay parameter within the delay format selected, so when you playing live and you have a head of steam and you are playing a 90BPM song at 120BPM you can sync your delay.......i could rant for hours about the 11 rack


OH:idea: and the "Z" impedance and amp/speaker modelling are just awesome ;)

lol....yeah.....live gigs seem like a blur to me....what is 45-90 mins seem like about 10-15........

Aha yeah, we have played many a 45 minute planned set in about 32 minutes down the years.
It's something we have always tried to minimise but in the end as long a the energy is good I guess that's all part of the beauty of live performance
Leave the click tracks for protools sessions

Also, just got offered (as in just yesterday) to play at the entrance to Adelaide Oval when United plays Victory in Rd2.

yeah ....can't go a click track as such......very off putting that clicking in your ear.............we use live takes as a reference at very low back ground levels in the cans for individual takes
