Leopold Method joins radio station 2SER 107.3

Football publication Leopold Method will bring its intelligent, insightful football analysis to the airwaves by launching a weekly one-hour show on one of Sydney’s largest community radio stations 2SER 107.3.

Each show will commence with analysis of top-level matches from the A-League, W-League, FFA Cup, and Australian men and women’s national teams. The second half of the one-hour program will consist of long form interviews on topics ranging from player development, community and elite level football, administration, disadvantaged groups and the history of the game.

The host of the Leopold Method radio show, Richard Parkin, was recently involved in SBS’s coverage of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. He has also hosted the 2010 World Cup for SBS Radio, and has reported on world football for the past four years for SBS World News.

Parkin will be joined each episode by Leopold Method’s award-winning analyst Kate Cohen, who is also a regular contributor for Guardian Australia. A new addition to Leopold Method, Joey Crews, will produce the show.

Leopold Method has also partnered with Australia’s premier women’s football website, The Women’s Game. Editor Ann Odong will provide weekly W-League match reports and features on matters relating to women’s football.

For 35 years, 2SER 107.3 has provided Sydney with specialist music, news, opinion and high quality current affairs programs offering a unique insight into Sydney’s culture and champion new and diverse ideas.

Station Director Melanie Withnall said they were attracted to Leopold Method for detailed match analysis as well as the commitment to tackling issues within the game.

“Leopold Method has been producing high calibre sports journalism looking at issues that are often not given the coverage they deserve,” said Withnall. “We were impressed by their advanced analysis of games as well as their focus on the grassroots issues the game faces as it expands in Australia.

“At 2SER we look behind the headlines to find out what’s truly going on in new and emerging stories, ideas and music. Leopold Method are creating a program that’s about more than just scores and player contracts, a program that looks at every facet of football and how it interacts with Australians on every level. They’re a perfect fit for the way 2SER already covers science, music, legal affairs, the economy and much more.”

Shaun Mooney, the publisher of Leopold Method, sees 2SER 107.3 as a perfect fit.

“2SER’s commitment to educating its listeners with an alternative discourse centred around the principles of social justice, fits in perfectly with what we’re all about,” said Mooney. “We have spent the past 20 months bringing the issues that are not addressed by mainstream media to the consciousness of the football public.

“There is clearly a gap within the Australian football market for longer form interviews, that delve deep into the heart of the issues and educate and inform the listener.

“Radio will allow us to bring in experts or administrators who are involved in the decisions that affect the football community to explain what the challenges and opportunities are.”

Leopold Method will air on 2SER each Sunday at 5:00pm to 6:00pm commencing on October 12. The show can be heard on 107.3 FM, digital radio through 2SER Digital, streamed live from www.2ser.com and via 2SER’s free smart phone app.

Leopold Method will post a recording of the show on its website www.leopoldmethod.com.au each Wednesday, along with a transcript of each interview and video recording of selected interviews.
