Sheesh, that's pretty bad. Athough, one argument can be put forward - is it worse than what you can do on GTA. By the looks of things you gain yourself a wanted level on this game, so is it really all that different to GTA and going on a mass-murdering rampage that lets face it, everybody does. It looks pretty gruesome, but GTA doesn't shy away from gruesome all that much. There's a mission in GTA 5 where you have to torture some poor old sod. I agree it's poor taste, but you're going to get your deranged individuals who are going to buy into it. Can't wait for the media to blame this game when the next school massacre in the United States happen. I won't buy it. That's for certain. And if it does get sold out here, it shouldn't be any less than an R18+ rating.

My opinion is that it looks like a boring game, and it will make a huge amount of money because it launched the trailer at the exact right time with #GamerGate going full pelt and a massive community resentment of snowflake sentiment. The Gawker network are currently giving it the best advertising possible with numerous articles decrying it as the most vile, abhorrent, violent game ever. This won't ever see release in Australia because the OFLC will ban it outright for violence against police officers (and probably women), which will create even more demand. I'm constantly amazed that smart, prominent people still don't understand The Streisand Effect.

I can't see how that would be the reason why it'd be banned. I've come up with some pretty creative way to kill law enforcement on Grand Theft Auto. I mean sticky bombs, RPGs, and bombing the fuck out of people in the fighter jets aren't violent enough?

I mean sticky bombs, RPGs, and bombing the fuck out of people in the fighter jets aren't violent enough? You're correct (although not for the reasoning you're giving), I was thinking of the Left For Dead 2 case where they refused classification for the depiction of shooting zombie police officers but that was before the R18+ rating came into effect. Recent classification refusals have come for State of Decay (drug use), Saints Row 4 (interactive, visual depictions of implied sexual violence which are not justified by context). Here's what the OFLC has to say about how they supposedly classify: Quote:RC (Refused Classification) – Contains material that is considered to offend against the standards of morality, decency and propriety generally accepted by reasonable adults to the extent that it should not be classified. Classification is mandatory, and films that are rated Refused Classification by the ACB are banned for sale, hire or public exhibition, carrying a maximum fine of $275,000 and/or 10 years' jail if an individual/organisation is found to be in breach of this. It is, however, legal to possess RC films and games (except in Western Australia and certain parts of the Northern Territory), unless they contain illegal content (e.g. child pornography). The content is very high in impact.
Films and games that exceed the X18+ & R18+ ratings (respectively) are Refused Classification by the ACB. Content which may be Refused Classification include: Detailed instruction or promotion in matters of crime or violence. The promotion or provision of instruction in paedophile activity. Descriptions or depictions of child sexual abuse or any other exploitative or offensive descriptions or depictions involving a person who is, or appears to be, a child under 18 years. Gratuitous, exploitative or offensive depictions of: (i) violence with a very high degree of impact or which are excessively frequent, prolonged or detailed; (ii) cruelty or real violence which are very detailed or which have an extremely high impact; (iii) sexual violence Depictions of practices such as bestiality, necrophilia or other practices that are revolting or abhorrent. Gratuitous, exploitative or offensive depictions of: (i) activity accompanied by fetishes or practices that are offensive or abhorrent; (ii) incest fantasies or other fantasies that are offensive or abhorrent As a reasonable adult, I generally accept that I do not wish to relinquish my right to decide which types of media I consume.

I still give a chuckle when I remember GTA V is rated R18+ for drug use only. Mind you, if they gave a list of all the things the game could be rated R18+ for, they'd need a warning brochure inside the actual disc cover.

By that logic, shouldn't The Hunger Games be RC? No no no, violence is A-OK in our culture, but anything even sorta sexual is abhorrent. It's like all the gore, death and cannibalism in primetime for five years going on in the Walking Dead somehow without anyone using any swear words or exposing a female nipple.

Like Heiny has said - it seems not a whole lot worse than GTA.
Like notor has said - it seems quite a boring game though.

To be fair, the game will suck if it has no decent gameplay elements and what not. Rare to find people who enjoy games solely for just shooting things without the actual "game" part of it. -PB

While in GTA you may end up killing innocent civilians if you choose to, it's not the aim of the game, it's a personal choice for the most part.

Agreed, I think I meant it doesn't seem a whole lot worse than GTA in what you can do in GTA. Did the house and street the Hatred guy walked out into at the start of the trailer remind anyone else a heap of Grove St from San Andreas?

Like notor has said - it seems quite a boring game though. I've always thought GTA gets away with a lot because it has a hyper-satirical, almost cartoonish feel to it. Even when your running around murdering civilians in cold blood there is always an element of sheer absurdity to it. Obviously this is an artistic component of the franchise that makes it just as funny as it is violent. This game on the other hand looks like it was made just to spark a reaction. Such a cliche' laden protagonist as well.

Missions are just a off-hand occurrence. Also in GTA you have 'rampage missions', where the aim is to destroy and kill as many things and people as possible. I also agree with sydneyfc1987, there is a satirical side to it all, as graphic and disturbing as you can make it at times.
