Years ago you would hear racist jokes and terminology all the time. These days if someone starts up on one or calls someone a fairly derogatory term then they're pulled up pretty quick.

Maybe most blokes aren't like that but something I took away from a course I did once was the saying "the standard you walk past is the standard you accept."

Maybe it would help if we didn't "walk by" so often.

As for low socio economic areas, go to any street on a nightclub strip in Australia and tell me that, when full of piss and vinegar, white blokes aren't the equal or worse than their black brethren in Harlem.

This is not a black or white thing.

Its a poor, low socio-economic thing. You would probably find the same harassment in a poor white neighbourhood.

I'm sure you don't mean that a poor black person is only as good as a drunk white person, but for what its worth, those guys in the video were sober.

No. What I meant was that whilst we might mouth sweet nothings in public regards women if you strip away the inhibitions with a little bit of social lubricant you get closer to what somebody is really thinking.

Its an interesting argument though. On a side note, I believe that it is a common misconception that alcohol reveals the true nature of someone.

Alcohol alters, among other things, frontal lobe function. Part of the frontal lobe is to control inhibitions, but the main part is our personality.

Alcohol alters our personality, rather than revealing it. I'm sure we've all come across people who change to a different person when drunk.

I've seen the effects of frontal lobe dementia completely change someone, I mean completely change them.

Again that doesn't excuse bad behaviour whilst drunk. If you get drunk then you should wear the consequences of your actions, but alcohol does not reveal our true nature, rather, it changes it.

What would happen if she went into an upmarket white area for comparison? Would she receive that level of "harassment" there? But hey, we'll never know, because that would be racist.
