What record?? He got sacked. He's won nothing.
He's not a bad manager, there are a fair few worse managers out there. He's just not a good one.

2 fifth placings with a squad of poms plus Berbatov is pretty good!

He'd be a "revolutionary" and a "modern day genius" had he coached Liverpool, mind.

He did well at spurs. Just not for the last little while he was there. IIRC he had a shitty 06/07 season. Stayed on for the first 10 or so games of last season and didnt improve. Then he was sacked. Before the 06/07 season he did well. I liked him. Dont really know why he fell to shit.

He's not a bad manager, there are a fair few worse managers out there. He's just not a good one. This seems to be getting tiresome. The fact that he has not won anything makes precious little difference as only a vast minority of teams can win anything anymore due to the monopoly of the big 4 over here. The facts are that he took Spurs to the top of the 'best of the rest' pile two years in a row, was sacked hastily and in an error of judgement, and is now showing what a good manager he is at Hamburg. There is no denying he is a good manager.

No doubt Jol is a quality coach and was good for Spurs. I spose we just got too ambitious with our expectations of him?

Had he performed so far ahead of expectations with Liverpool's squad, it might have meant an EPL win.

Good with the smaller clubs, but he's not a good enough manager to sustain the pressure. And you know you were demanding his sacking back in 07. I've probably still got the MSN records if you want. Comparing him to Allardyce? This is almost as wrong as you've been on this thread so far. Allardyce is a defensive long-ball merchant, Jol had us playing successful attacking football. If charlie was calling for his sacking in 07 he was in the vast minority. In Jol's last game against Getafe he got a standing ovation and his name was ringing around the ground.

I didn't say he played the same type of football as Allardyce, just that in principle he's better with the smaller teams.

'Arry was making a point in an interview I read today on 4thegame about Paul Ince's sacking, basically saying it would be interesting to have a role reversal and see how the Fergies,Arsenes et al would fair in todays climate managing a team with limited funding like Blackburn or West Brom, and how Ince and others sacked like him would go with the true team of their choice..

A smart chap that 'Arry. How do you think we'll go against Spartak jazz, I'm not too optimistic seeing as half our squad don't have pubic hair yet. Tottenham striker Darren Bent has tonsillitis and is out of the UEFA Cup clash against Spartak Moscow at White Hart Lane. Jonathan Woodgate (back) and Ledley King (knee) will be sidelined, while Roman Pavlyuchenko and Vedran Corluka are cup-tied, leaving Spurs boss Harry Redknapp desperately short. Fraizer Campbell is Redknapp's only fit forward, as Giovani dos Santos is still recovering from an ankle problem. Jermaine Jenas (calf) and Alan Hutton (foot) are the other absent players. Tottenham (from): Gomes, Gunter, Zokora, Dawson, Bale, Assou Ekotto, O'Hara, Huddlestone, Lennon, Bentley, Modric, Campbell, Gilberto, Cesar, Dervite, Smith, Bostock, Parrett, Rose, Obika. From that squad I'd like to see: -----------Octopus Gunter--Dawson--Dervite--BAE Lennon--Hudd--Bostock--Bentley ------------Modric ----------Fraizer C. That back 4 is fairly terrible, let's hope we can score more goals than them..

Not to concerned about them tbh Peligro, all we need is a draw, and even with pre-pubescent teens we're still way stronger. A loss is still not the end of the world either, decent chance we'll still make it thru anyway..

We have to lose by 2 goals and NEC have to beat Udinese by 2 goals for us to not qualify.Or Spartak smash us 5-0..

Jol had the same problem, he took Spurs to europe and the forefront of "the rest" but I don't think he could have taken them any further, perhaps success in the UEFA cup was on the cards though. I guess we'll never know. Ince signed Robbie Fowler...look at the various other bosman transfers he could have signed...I'd say Ince would have struggled in a big team. There's a REASON these managers are in charge of the big teams, they've worked their way to the top. Incase you've forgotten, Wenger coached Nancy, Monaco and Grampus. Fergie's coached at East Stirlingshire, St Mirren, Aberdeen and Scotland. Rafa's coached at Valladolid, Osasuna, Extremadura, Tenerife. And Scolari's managed an incredibly long list of small teams.

True Afroman, but I think he was more refering to today's climate, where new managers aren't given a fair chance and sacked too soon.Ferguson was given thae chance to build his team over a few years, and made mistakes along the way,but was backed and when sucess came he learned how to sustain it.ARSEne too to some degree, although not lately

SAF was lucky not to get the sack earlier in his reign, around 91/92. That said, if his team played like that now, he certainly would have been sacked.

Spurs 2-2 Spartak Spartak were 2-0 up at halftime, but goals to Modric and Huddlestone saved Tottenham. Particularly as NEC won their game.

Doesn't look like Gilberto will wear a Spurs strip again. Wonder why he was registered in Europe ](*,)

Yeah they are going to be tough to beat but I'm sure if our midfield is on top of their game we can certainly defeat them. Will our man Roman fire up against them?

I hope so, he's a good player on his day. If Zokora/anyone else plays as a DM in these matches, he'll have to play well too to stop Fernandinho, Jadson, Ilsinho etc.
