So looking forward to this now - C'mon China, looking forward to an improving China to upset the apple-cart of usual suspects/favourites. They are always under-achievers China, so hopefully this team are the real deal, in terms of improvement! Saudi Arabia will be a tough test! SlyGoat36 wrote:Ill be there ;) Awesome!

'Don't Delay, just Play' ..'Atleast 60 minutes' Hmm interesting, I wonder what exactly all this is about? Time-wasting, bad crowd behaviour or in-game brawls that see game's suspended, forfeited etc...? Edited by GloryPerth: 10/1/2015 08:06:22 PM

Too bad 'that guy' isn't playing - conveniently out for the whole tournament due to some last minute 'injury' - curious...
In some bizarre way, going to miss our Arch-Villain of the piece - I'm sure he'd have been the 'fan favourite' for all games. :o

See what I said about Saudi Arabia. You'd expect China to be playing possession ball. Saudi's playing full Ange style ball

Clearly these leagues have stepped up to the challenge. Saudi look good, Qatar are fucking on another level also. Must be all this foreign influence coming into their Leagues. Although yeah China shouldn't be too bad you think with what Ganzhoa Evergrande having a lot of foreign influence money / quality coach etc now.

The Saudi's pro-active as expected, but... China are too, so much soo recent times that Saudi's dropping back! Wave after wave into final third, a few corners. Lacking the effective final ball etc... as per norm with a number of AFC sides.
China sure are keen, pushing forward!

highkick05 wrote:Strange game, glad its a draw though. should be a great second half You know, if you judge on paper, or more by rankings and historic rankings and AFC tournament and WC qualification success - then you'd rightly presume that teams like Saudi Arabia (A traditional power-house of AFC football) would be rank favourites playing a China, every single time! But when you actually pair up a China against most strong AFC teams, then more often than not, it will be a strong contest - especially in games against their fellow East/NE Asian teams, most of them fierce rivals. We see similar this evening - the gap is even narrower these days, so the likes of China may rightly feel they can not only compete, but win such games and even challenge in such tournaments. That's really where they should be and where the AFC would need them to be. We need to see China in the final stage of World Cup Qualifying and even qualifying for the odd WC more often - no offence to the Bahrain's, Qatar's, North Korea's, Saudi Arabia's and co, but instead of seeing those sides there and abouts the final round of WC Qualification all the time, would be nice to see China leapfrog or atleast be on-par with those kinds of teams. I'm all for China winning this. Would be actually cooler seeing them in the World Cup. My presumption was, when I first started watching World Cups was 'where is China?' Japan were in it so I presumed they were as technicqally gifted. But N. Korea and S. Korea are comically this far apart as well. Alkass (Qatar Sports Channel) Discussing in depth the Roos' win. Wish I could understand em "Al hukkk, al haamaza hukama hukkk' Yeah - Interestingly, not sure if you watching the same FS coverage I am - But Aloisi said that Perrin, the China NT coach, said this team is moulded for 2018 WC Qualification (His remit is to qualify them for 2018 - so we all watch this space), so are less likely to challenge for this AC. Aloisi disagreed slightly suggesting this team at it's current level is a bit more capable of even progressing from the group, if they can continue to impress and upset more fancied teams like this. and  Had that experience a few times watching the Arabic streams of some Socceroos WC Qualification games - h/t and f/t with the Arabic presenters and expert pundits - alot of seemingly in-depth talk! Edited by GloryPerth: 10/1/2015 09:17:02 PM

Oi if they 'want more' on the Saudi bench for that tackle - then the two-footed scissor kick from behind/side on from their Saudi player earlier, should've seen a yellow atleast!

Silly decisions from China last 5 mins or so, losing possession and dropping back, Saudi putting pressure on and it's resulted in a penalty conceded due to another Saudi fast-break leading to the last line of the Chinese defence scrambling, the CB throwing in a reckless tackle.

433 - I think they are already one of our biggest tourist markets anyway, a few more wouldn't hurt? :p
I think after this win - it should be incumbent on them to show up now. They were always expected to have half decent support from atleast the local Chinese community anyway, but if they do surprise and go further than expected then the Chinese support needs to respond in-kind!

Was a definite yellow! Yet, there they carry on about the studs up challenge by the SK player a bit later. If anything SK robbed of another yellow against SA, in a game where the Saudi's sought to rightly manipulate their superiority in strength and physicality. But despite this, China coped surprisingly well with this - which was very important and contributed to their earning this win. Their improved organisation under Perrin is a big factor in their improved performance. Edited by GloryPerth: 10/1/2015 10:27:41 PM

Quote:hina coach Alain Perrin has blasted the condition of the Suncorp Stadium surface in the wake of his side's 1-0 Asian Cup win over Saudi Arabia. Parts of the pitch were relaid earlier in the week but there were still significant patches of visibly uneven turf, leading the Frenchman to describe Saturday night's surface as "very, very, very, very bad". And it's unlikely to get any better in a hurry - the Brisbane stadium will host six more games, including China's next outing against Uzbekistan on Wednesday night as well as a quarter-final. "It doesn't deserve the competition, this pitch," Perrin said. "(I am) very surprised. Training ground is much better than competition pitch." Teams in Brisbane have prepared on immaculate surfaces at Perry Park and the Queensland Sport and Athletic Centre in the lead-up to games at Suncorp Stadium. There will be little time for ground staff to improve the pitch with Jordan and Iraq to meet there on Monday night. http://www.theage.com.au/sport/soccer/asian-cup-2015-china-coach-alain-perrin-slams-suncorp-surface-20150111-12ls3t.html What has happened to Suncorp, it regularly used to have one of the league's best surfaces. Did the flooding a few years back do significant damage that hasn't been repaired? Seems odd.

Sharing it with the Broncos and Reds shouldn't matter fuk all either, cause I remember that pitch looking immaculate all year round years back, it didn't matter that their was so much usage. Regardless, stadium management needs to be held accountable for the current state its in. Patchy as fuk. Completely unacceptable.

Went to this game last night and had an unreal time. Not a bad game either. The Chinese fans were fucking awesome, were giving away free flags and shirts and just generally good people. Very few came out for beers on Caxton St afterwards though. Have a feeling there are several pictures/videos of me and my mates on China's version of instagram. We were immersed in the section with most of the active-type support (they had a capo, he didnt speak a lip of English) and had our photo taken with about 60 different people from the rows around us.
Dont understand why people wore socceroos jerseys to the game!

Dont understand why people wore socceroos jerseys to the game! Why not? Its common practice for host nation fans to attend neutral games in home colours. What did you expect them to wear?

The China coach should be thanking the state of the surface - Saudis are and were the better footballing team.

I saw people wandering the streets of West End yesterday in (old) Socceroo shirts. Maybe it's some kind of weird cult?

I find it weird to wear a jersey supporting a team who isnt there. Its not like your socceroos jersey is just layong around, you'd have to conciously decide to wear it, but they arent playing... I dunno. Weird OCD thing I guess, everything in its place, etc. Edited by roary's mane: 11/1/2015 06:22:22 PM

Think of it as celebration of football, I think its brilliant. Also, some people have plenty of different socceroos jerseys, enough for each day of the week. \:d/ \:d/
