Does it have to mean something? I am almost completely detached from the meaning all public holidays but that doesn't mean I need them any less

Asian Cup semi-final. Is it the one in Sydney? If it's the one in Newy that'd be better for me. Much easier to get to ANZ after work than Newcastle.

We lived in Perth for a couple of years and they seem to celebrate Australia Day more than the east coast.

Remember, they weren't all that keen on joining the rest of Australia back in 1901. Quite frankly, I reckon the majority of them wouldn't mind being their own country. At least we wouldn't have to put up with all their whinging about not getting international football games, and them complaining about the heat, and having to play games at ridiculous times to accommodate time slots for sports where 90% plus of the viewing public are on the East Coast. I say let Western Australia become it's own nation, and then we invade them for their resources. It would mean having to recall all the SAS troops based in Perth, but that's easy enough.

Perth is such a beautiful place but they were still a bit behind the east coast on a few things when I was there. They had the referendum on Daylight Savings when I was there and it got voted against.. I will never understand that!

In 1933 they voted to secede from the Commonwealth http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Western_Australian_secession_referendum,_1933
