I personally wouldn't send her, but in terms of a marketable name... She's the very obvious candidate.

Her songs are awesome but I doubt having her back to the audience the whole time will rate highly with the Euro crowd. They will need someone who engages the crowd and has good stage presence.

Unless they are offered an obscenely large sum of money.

On Wednesday, news broke that Australia - despite being some 15,000km from Europe - had been formally invited to compete at Eurovision 2015 in Austria. A representative has not yet been named.

According to two petitions since posted on the website change.org, support for the faceless 1990s Melbourne rock band to represent Australia swamps Kylie's by proportions of roughly 37 to 1.

TISM (This is Serious Mum) produced a series of beloved anti-pop anthems in the mid-1990s and early 2000s, such as (He'll Never be an) Ol Man River and Greg! The Stop Sign!!. It later broadened its palette to include The Parable of Glenn McGrath's Hair, If You're Not Famous at Fourteen, You're Finished and Everyone Else Has Had More Sex Than Me. TISM last performed in 2004.

So far 274 people have signed a change.org petition calling for Kylie to represent Australia, while 10,244 have supported the call for TISM to take the stage in Vienna from May 23.

"My official position is I cannot comment on behalf of TISM due to respect for my former colleagues and artisic integrity," said former member Humphrey B. Flaubert (Damian Cowell).

"However if a giant multinational with horrendous human rights record was to give me a huge cheque I'll dob in my grandmother."

Flaubert found the petition: "Hilarious and deeply flattering [that TISM was associated] with trashy crap disco music performed in a shoddy cheesy fashion in a highly rigged political arena.

"But it's all good."

Cowell did raise the point that the timing of the petition could be fishy, given his own project, Damian Cowell's Disco Machine is playing at Sydney's Newtown Social Club on Valentines Day and at The Corner Hotel in Melbourne on February 20. Could it all be a promotional stunt designed to draw punters?

"It does have the whiff of a huge media hoax by me, doesn't it?" Cowell said.

"You've got to ask yourself 'are you the subject of a terrible dupe'? Some kind of KLF-like scheme? Are you part of the great media-art installation construct?

"I would say that if I had constructed the entire stunt myself I would neither confirm no deny it, but leave it hanging there like one of the horrendous long pauses in My Kitchen Rules."

Whatever we fell for, if anything, like so many Australians we fell willingly

I liked Australia in the comp, thought Guy Sebastian did good.

UK were pretty much the only team to get into that real overhyped, overlighted, bit-of-a-pisstake spirit that I love so much about Eurovision. If they weren't so hated by everyone else in the competition, I thought they should have won.

Some of the gimmicks were horrendous - the headphones chick, the fire piano, the 14 year olds (or however old). They were just embarrassing attempts at being memorable IMO.

The three songs I actually did really like were Australia's, Belgium's and Cyprus's.

it wasnt even selected via popular vote. BBC selected it. nothing more than session singers for ad agencies and cover bands. absolute rubbish. the girl couldnt even sing.

the event doesnt exist for the piss to be taken out of it. if thats the view of the UK then thats their problem.

i'd rather watch a singing contest that is taken seriously than a race to the bottom. many did take it seriously but UK opted for the latter.

Eurovision is all about who has the most memorable gimmick.

The Swedish song was pretty awful, but had that cool video light show thing.

Last year was won by a chick with a beard.

The gimmicks included in this years lineup from the top of my head were: flaming piano, chick wearing headphones, golden shoes, drums that lit up when they were played, 14 year old boy and girl, 3 couples kissing on stage 2 of which were same-sex, chick in wheelchair. There's probably more, they were just what I could think of!

If you want a singing contest taken seriously, you're in the wrong place mate. Eurovision is a competition that is happy to take the piss out of itself, and does so in great fashion.

And if it was just a singing contest - surely Cyprus should have won.

Oh and in all of that, I haven't even mentioned the voting process! Where it's more about who you've formed allegiances with, bordering nations, etc than who is actually the best.

So tl;dr - UK for me got into the spirit of Eurovision more than any other competitor, and for me should have won it if not for being the most hated entrant in the competition each year.

gimmicks are part of performance. some of them added to it some didnt.

the UK got nothing right. it was annoying on all levels. the only song I wanted to fast forward through even though it was only 3 minutes. it had the highest proportion of youtube dislikes for a good reason.

and you're wrong, Russia is the most hated entrant and they still got second because the woman could actually sing and perform even if the song was just so-so

I'm by no means a Guy fan but he's a likeable character. He seems to have distanced himself a bit from the old Paradise church and you cant really deny he has talent.

British and a lot of anglo australians have an arrogant attitude toward it. A lot of it is racism and poking fun at smaller, poorer or more isolated nations. They enjoyed that aspect of it.

Europe always took it seriously but prior to the spread of the internet and globalisation, many acts just werent very good
it wasnt manufactured that way, it just was.

Now they've raised their game markedly because of various talent shows, the internet etc...and the British are still stuck in 10+ years ago and want to continue to manufacture the rubbishy aspect of it even though its not nearly entertaining when its not authentic.

If you want see amateur quirky performances, then youtube is full of it - you dont need an international song contest to satisfy that urge. Red Faces isnt on TV any more because most people are over it.

I'd rather see a range of quality acts from a country other than the USA and modern Eurovision provides that along with the politics that adds to the mystique.

It's massive in Sweden. As you can see many of the acts songs are written by swedes.
Here they have 6 Saturday shies where they played to sold out crowds in each major city. Before the final in Stockholm. It wouldn't surprise me if over 5 million watched on Saturday. It's probably more.

Ireland has a history of winning, they take it really seriously too.

Macedonia and Montenegro took the piss out of the voting process, consequently had their votes disqualified.

Highlights: Sweden, Montenegro, Israel, Australia, Italy, Estonia

Lowlights: Cyprus, France, Hungary, Serbia

Montenegro was good.


Austrian King of Leon were crap. I almost vomited in my mouth when the Russian chick was crying after her performance.

Austria and Germany both got 0 points. Germany's wasn't that bad IMO.

The German entry was actually the runner up of their national comp because the winner pulled out straight away.

I guess you could say Holland, Belgium and Buli.2 were in the contest :lol:
