Hopefully the dominance of the Australian team this tournament confirms the vindication of the dominance of the sport for the generation in the nationalist identity
In times of war, unemployment, the certainty of the dominant winning Australian cricket team is the one certainty in times of uncertainty

Yeah NZ can't be a dark horse when they're third favourites.
Winners: Australia Losing Finalist: New Zealand Semi Finalists: South Africa (can't be taken seriously until they win one), Pakistan Player of the Tournament: Michael Clarke Dark Horse: Pakistan Surprise Packet: Zimbabwe Big Call: West Indies won't get out of the group

Not sure if Ireland will be a surprise packet they just got pumped the other day by Scotland.
Agree that NZ aren't a Dark Horse they've got a very good side.
A shame that the groups are uneven Bangladesh and even Scotland would be kicking themselves that they're not in Group B.

One of the biggest rivalries in world sport. Actually, just the world in general. Will be amazing to watch. SA v Zim could be interesting as well, if Zimbabwe get the right conditions they could easily knock off a big nation.
Australia was unreal yesterday. And to think out of our 3 best batsmen one didn't play and the other two failed and we still made 340 is terrifying. IMO it has to be Watson that comes out for Clarke

There are plenty of decent hitters around the teams, but for me only three teams have a decent bowling lineup for Australian conditions. Australia, New Zealand and South Africa should all go well for this reason.
Australia bat all the way to number 10 when Starc plays. The bowling attack of Johnson, Starc, Hazlewood, marsh, Watson, and Maxwell with Doherty and Smith on standby should do the business across the games.
New Zealand have got Boult, Southee, Vettori and some other handy bowlers - Milne, Mcleneghan, Mills being good examples. Plus their batsmen are in form - Williamson, Taylor, McCullum, Ronchi, Anderson... All good hitters.
And South Africa have Steyn, Morkel, Tahir, Philander, plus a few more.
I don't think anyone else will go close. England have decent bowlers but they can't bowl at the death and don't have the big hitters. India have the batsmen but a very poor bowling attack. Sri Lanka the same. West Indies don't have Dwayne Bravo or Pollard. Pakistan have beaten Australia recently in tests, but they are untested in Australian conditions, and are without Ajmal.

Ireland chased down 304 to beat the West Indies with 4 overs to spare. Was going to say it's hardly an upset but when I backed them yesterday they were amazingly paying over $4.
There have been 6 successful chases of over 300 in World Cup history and Ireland have 3 of them.

Especially considering he should've been out first over, then was caught off a no ball. No team will want the Windies in the quarters though in case he does something similar

We learned that both teams have a bowling lineup capable of ripping through the other. Australia probably have a better batting lineup, but today they didn't perform. Starc is, IMO, the best ODI/T20 fast bowler in the world right now. He is awesome at bowling those fast Yorkers- he hits them again and again.

Absolutely deadly today. Think with the extra bounce we have here in Aus our attack is better than theirs.

I'm finding this world cup a bit boring to be honest, the fielding restriction changes have just swayed it even further in the batsmen's favour. It's entertaining but also a bit bland seeing 400+ scores being posted regularly now. My favourite games have been some of the lower scoring ones. (UAE v Ireland, obviously Aus v NZ, Afghanistan v Scotland)
Afghanistan actually aren't all that bad a side. They have some decent fast bowlers but they'll probably get reamed by about 200 runs, maybe more.

That was a much better game of cricket, there's been a few of them, but too many where the team batting first has a massive total, which is great to watch and all, but much less exciting to watch the chasing teams get no where near it. As for England, I'd be mildly frustrated if it weren't for the fact that A. I find it impossible to give a shit any more, and B. it's pretty fucking funny

It was far worse when they lost to Ireland in 2011. Bangladesh are a good side and could give India a problem in the quarters. To think this time 2 years England were clearly a far superior team to ours, and the difference between then and now is amazing.
Could help them come Ashes time though. Some dead wood will be gone, they'll have favourable conditions and most importantly for them KP is almost a certainty to be back.

For that to happen he needs to first find a county that'll have him, and then Moores needs to get the chop, and then he actually needs to play well enough to actually warrant selection ahead of one of Ballance, Root and Bell. He doesn't just walk into the fucking team FFS, Root and Ballance had excellent summers last year and Bell's never going to be dropped in a million years. The petulant little child's far more trouble than he's worth and if we're talking about batsmen making a comeback then I'm far more enthused about a potential return for Trott. There aren't even that many problems with the test side other than who opens with Cook, and will Cook himself ever find any sort of form ever again. Now just watch them lose the test series to the Windies in April.

If he does play county cricket, he'll be there. Apart from maybe Joe Root, he's still comfortably better than any other English batsmen. If any player feels that strongly about it that they can't play with him, then that's their problem and they can piss off. He shouldn't have been dropped to start with. You can't drop Pietersen for being toxic and keep Prior, Broad or Anderson in the team FFS.

Yeah but nothing would make him happier than proving those who kicked him out wrong, so if he does get told he's a chance to be picked again, he'll definitely play it for a season. England wouldn't have fucked that chase last night with him in the middle order.

Two of the QFs have basically been sorted. India will play Bangladesh at the MCG.
Australia will play either Pakistan or the West Indies in Adelaide depending on results today.
Winners of both games will play the SF in Sydney. So it could be an AUSvIND game.

Mccullum. Hes a slogger not a batsman. Still a great player. Not as good as those listed but just on the next level down.

South Africa have made a great start. Sri Lanka made a bad call opening with a slogger. Kumar and Mahela now up against the new ball. Disaster for them.

That spell from Wahab last night was as good as any ever bowled in Australia in a ODI. Stoked we won since I'm flying down for the final. The game against India will be an epic though, just hope we can make it through.

Those 2 run out opportunies that they cocked up + the catch dropped as well... SA only have themselves to blame

One of the best games in cricket history. NZ should be proud of their team and the tournament. Feels good to know worst case scenario I'll be flying down to cheer them on. Fucking hope Australia are there though.
Massive lol on South Africa again. It gets funnier every time

This is the best NZ Cricket team I've ever seen. They have two genuinely excellent fast bowlers, a great spinner, two deadly opening batsmen, a strong middle order, a useful wicketkeeper and a great captain. They also seem mentally tough.
As much as SA stuffed up, they were also beaten by a better team. For me NZ have played the best cricket all tournament.
Hopefully Australia get through. A final between Aus v NZ would be epic.

Dangerous partnership building
Didn't think the ball was missing leg by that much in the DRS. Thought it was clipping at worst. Elliots freed up since that reprieve.
