Always have had a soft spot for Smeltz. Played for AU of course and then for Halifax FC in the UK. Both my teams - bloody coincidence or omen - not sure. Would be great to see him back.

Considering the proposed departure of Travis Dodd for good money the cap would have some nice room. If it would be enough I don't know. The though of Ago moving out of the marquee role to accomadate Cassio could make the deal a possibility.

Why would Wellington sell him to another A-league club? Surely the only reason they would let him go is for money, and that would have to overseas surely. Can't see it happening, and if it does, Wellington are making a very poor decision.

olrac and others- there are 5 visa spots next season, Adelaide could keep their Brazilians and still add Smeltz

5 visa spots next year, plus AU sell Dodd, get rid of Agostino, they are in a very strong position and are setting themselves up brilliantly for the future.

danoz_direct - What a stupid comment to make. Sydney is still here after Dwight left, Victory lost their star, it happens to all teams. Smeltz wasnt rated by anyone until picked up by the Phoenix

Dante - Smeltz has already spent several years in England meandering around the lower leagues until Ricki saved him from football obscurity. He is good value at A-League level but he doesn't really have any remarkable qualities. Would still hate to see him go to Adelaide or the Gold Coast of course.
