The compromise may be to put a park where the ANZ is, and just rename it Cathy Freeman park, or put a plaque there, rather than have a white elephant of a stadium. The stadium is staying there because of the city of Sydney is in a state of denial over the fact that the venues for the Sydney Olympics outlasted the Athens + Beijing Olympics

Any new construction at sfs will be bad for sfc. They have missed the boat and should have moved to kogarah seasons ago. Now Cahill FC will come in leaving them playing at anz while renovations of sfs occur. This will be disastrous for their fan base. They should now start to think about playing at Brookvale under the construction time, as west and south Sydney seem to be lost/ or lost in the future

Not sure i agree. 10k at aami park with the top closed off looks better than 12k at newcastle with the entire stadium open. Would depend on how it was built.

It the stands were steep and people sat close to the pitch at a new SFS it would look better on tv than it currently does

15-20k in a 60k seater will look even worse than it looks in the 45k seater SFS.

I would prefer ANZ was modified to make the ends steeper and more like a football stadium. And make the ends as well as the sides come in when its in rectangular mode similar to the way Etihad is configured. That will fix the view problems.

Unless you're willing to pay hundreds for seats at the halfway line and halfway back in the stands where the view is ordinary at best, it really is as bad as the MCG. When you're behind the goals or even in the corner, it's a real struggle to see the far end of the pitch because there is bugger all incline in the stands. MCG might be further back but the stands are far steeper.

Agree with the rest of the post, Homebush is boring as and most of us who chose to fly in for Australia games will spend the day drinking around George St instead of going out there before the game. Personally I'd rather no games played at either but if i had to choose, i'd go with the MCG just because it would be a far better day out than going to fucking Homebush.

No football should be played at the MCG, ever, period, finito, it's a fucking Cricket ground FFS.

ANZ isn't worthy of the bashing it's getting here. The view itself is decent enough compared to the MCG however once the Swans leave their tenancy, the seating should be moved to a rectangular format. I think the real problem lies outside the stadium- there's not much in the way of iconic bars or nightlife to make the game a day/ night out. Compared to Suncorp or even the SFS, people tend to get there, stay for the game and then f**k off as quickly as they can when it's over. More boutique bars/ restaurants and an entertainment 'hub' would improve people's perception of going to games at ANZ a hell of a lot.

That being said, the SFS should absolutely have its' configuration changed to accommodate 60k- with a light rail link connecting it to Central and other key spots in the CBD.

With the cathy freeman moment still in people's memories, the reconciliation and indigenous recognition movement means its extra hard to demolish anz due to the significance of the site

Granted, they can just put up a plaque in the middle of a park in a suburb to signify the moment, but there are parties that suggest otherwise!
