This can be progressed further.

This time have 2 players at each end, making a total of 4 players altogether, instead of the 2 in the Barca Directional Control video video.

Instead have two sets of cones at each end, with another cone 5-7 metres behind the first one.

P3,P1....C2..............................C1.................................................................C1.............................C2...oP2, P4

P denotes players

C denotes cone

o denotes ball

This time the first player, P charges forward to the cone, C1, from behind the C2 cone, receiving the ball as they are moving forwards, taking it across the body and the cone (C1) and passing it back to the player on the other side, P2, who will also be running forwards from behind cone 2 to cone 1, who receives, takes it across the body and cone and passes back to P3.

This keeps on repeating over and over.

As players receive the ball and pass back from before cone 1 they run back to cone 2 to repeat the process.

The faster players can run towards the ball and receive it, the better in games to cut out intercepts.

I hope this makes sense.

This is the same a Barca Academy Directional Control exercise as explained by Tito Vilanova.

*To make it a first touch exercise, move the players and cones so players are only about 3 meres apart.

*After players seem comfortable with receiving with the right and left inside of the foot, then ask them to receive with the outside of the preferred foot, taking it across the cone, and passing with that same foot.

*Then ask them to receive with the outside of the non-preferred foot , and taking the ball across the cone and passing with that same foot.

*To progress it even further, ask the players passing the ball to increase the speed and power of passes, forcing players to receive harder hit balls.

*This can also be done against a wall, using inside and outside of both feet to receive, then pass back against the wall.
