Many members don't seem to ever engage about football, rather derailing everything into threads about their self interests, political issues or stupid banter.
Now I'm not saying every thread should be about the strengths of catenaccio or why the goalkeeper should be included in the formation, but even the simplest football discussions are quenched before they begin. Add to this the poor form of some members, what hope does anyone have to actually discuss football, or issues to do with the game?

There's been ENOUGH discussion about this

Can never have too much discussion on this

Must admit I've made sweeping statements about Scottish football, when Melbourne Terrace and Brisbane Bhoy, who have greater insights, suggest that in terms of one of the Dundee teams, and Celtic, my views are wrong because of lack of knowledge about the circumstances of those particular clubs. I too have disagreed with you on different topics. That said, I still have respect for your view (even when it is wrong most of the time 😜😉).

I personally don't take the view that "I" suffer the attacks personally, rather it is Celtic and/or Scottish football being attacked.

Those who post the same argument over and over again without either finding out the facts, or those amongst us who just argue for the sake of arguing - I ignore. If on the other hand one wants to discuss opposite views with respect of each other than I am more than happy to have 'said' discussion with them. Even if we don't find common ground at the end of 'said' discussion.

Ouch, that must have hurt 😛

This is it. If we have the mentality to listen and show respect to other people's opinion we may learn something new. Even if we might not change our own personal opinion, we can still come out of any debate/discussion with respect if we show respect.

One of the great things about football is it is a game of opinions. If we all show respect for others opinions than all should work out ok in the end ☺

Good points decentric.

Probably a few too many personal attacks on here when two people disagree. Then thread tends to descend into shit fight, and the popcorn usually comes out. I think I've put on about 10kg over the last few months.

I've been trying to get a semi-pro trained coach to participate on 442 for some time.

He uses this exact phrase, as the reason he gets irritated by this forum.

In terms of going to Scotland, I will defer to Brisbane Bhoy and Melbourne Terrace from now on. Some clubs may be more beneficial than others.

I do all the time.

Happy to admit when I'm wrong, hence why I don't make outlandish claims like other users here (saves on the grovelling and egg on face).

I never played competitive outdoor nor have I coached, my footballing experience is purely indoor for the last 6+ years which is a different ball game imo.

I am an arm chair critic at best and I know it.

Doesn't stop me from having an opinion though.

Indoor football experience is bona fide experience.=d>

Apart from the skiddy surface, basically it is the same game.

Admitting one is wrong demonstrates strength of character.

One of the strengths of football forums is to welcome diversity of thought. If one abuses others expressing different views, it is a loss of opportunity to weigh up, and think about whether oneself is too dogmatic.

I've known another member of 442, for 9 years, since the TWG. Localstar often finds antithetical positions to mine. However, he always, always questions my views from a football perspective. Fair play to him.

Even though often different from my views on football, I really appreciate Localstar's perspectives. I always look forward to his posts on any topic. He has a very sound historical knowledge and has played football at a high level. I usually think he has sound rationale for positing different perspectives.

Another poster, who I will not name, is a semi-professionally qualified football coach. On occasions he brings great insight to 442. However, he is prone to abuse those who differ from his own views. I even PMed him to suggest he could be banned from the forum unless he changes his behaviour, but that his perspectives and insights would be missed. I'm not sure how it was received. The same poster has responded immediately on other issues via PM.

One boss I had, the best at his job , used to suggest that if people cannot disagree, to acknowledge the other's different perspective, but that it is important to move on.

Possibly not a bad approach to take to a football forum.

In terms of positive feedback, I think this forum has a good mantra of discuss the idea, not attack the person.

In football parlance, play the ball, not the man.

I also think that most who participate on 442 inadvertently adhere to this doctrine.

In terms of feedback, how many posters reading this actually appreciate that other members post plausible views antithetical to one's own?

Then also appreciate that 442 is a viable football forum for advancing these discussions?
