Edited by salmonfc: 26/5/2015 02:49:31 PM Why does everyone assume they won't develop as soon as young players go overseas? Players fail and come back but I've seen better players than Mabil fail. So what's your answer? Everyone stays until they can start for an EPL team? The answer is for them to stay until they're good enough for the first team they're signing for. Playing for Leeds' reserve team isn't going to do him as much good as playing consistently for Adelaide. If he can prove he can be a top player here, o/s teams will have the confidence to play him more, he'll develop more, etc. I get what you're saying but he's only 19. If he wants to back himself then why not...

Hes better off staying here for another couple of years, if he can establish as one of the best attackers in the league then he should move overseas.

Too early. His decision making isn't good enough, which really lets down his end product. Needs at least another season here to sort it out.

The Whites have reportedly opened discussions with Adelaide United concerning the transfer of 19-year-old prospect Mabil, but chief executive Michael Petrillo has confirmed to The Advertiser that there has been no contract from the Championship club.
“We have no heard anything about this from Leeds or any agents,’’ Petrillo said when asked whether talks have opened with the Yorkshire-based outfit.
SoccerNews in the Netherlands reported on the interest from Leeds, as well as from Ajax and Anderlecht in Belgium.
It was stated that he could be prised away from Adelaide for roughly €350,000, having impressed in the A-League this term.
The young winger has made 19 appearances, scoring five goals and registering two assists, predominantly featuring as a right-sided winger - although he can play on the left, or as a number 10 as well.
It was a real breakthrough season for Mabil, who has now played 47 games for the club, but has never reached a similar goal tally to that shown this term.
Leeds are reportedly interested in a clear talent, and with Ajax and Anderlecht also fighting for his signature, the Championship club face competition from two clubs with large reputations in European football.

They may have believed they had an advantage with the reports stating that a deal was close to being agreed to take Mabil to Elland Road, but the latest comments from Adelaide’s chief executive have put paid to these rumours.
Should Leeds wish to sign the prospect this summer, they will have to formalise their interest in the coming weeks, but they face stiff competition to sign a player whose reputation is truly starting to flourish. http://hereisthecity.com/en-gb/2015/05/26/adelaide-united-chief-executive-denies-leeds-united-interest-in/

He is nowhere near good enough. He'll end up in the Swiss league for two seasons, warm the bench and head back here.

For the first time, but certainly not the last, I began to believe that Arsenals moods and fortunes somehow reflected my own. - Hornby
