Have been hearing murmurs that Tim Cahill could be given an early release from Shanghai in the summer transfer window (late June/early July). This mostly stems from the fact that his young kids apparently haven't adapted well to the move to China, and that Cahill has been largely disappointing one third into Shanghai's season. Shanghai won their first three games of the season but have only won one of their subsequent eight. Don't be surprised if he seeks a mutual termination in the coming months.

I'm sure they'll need that spot to stop going over the cap when they sign Vukavic.

Only one goal from the spot from memory, I was not long ago wondering if there were any crosses coming in because its not like him to not be scoring with his head at least

Cahill to Victory. Story of the offseason.

The real shame is that Juric was advised not to go if the rumours were true that he'd get all $18 million paid even if the contract ended early. Six months there, back to the A-League for the rest of the season then off to Europe while never having to worry about signing for clubs with money as a priority again.

Is what 90% of us were saying he should do at the time. Poor fella.

iirc the story going around at the time was that if they cut the contract in the first season he got little to no payout. Also the $18m number included alot of bonuses. It would be completely ridiculous to think they would guarantee a largely unproven player $18m, even if they do have money to burn.

Obviously it's a lot of money, but considering how bat shit crazy Chinese football can be (players and coaches getting let go all the time), it was not as much a guarantee as it appeared on the face of it.

I wouldn't want him to be honest, he doesn't suit the sort of football we play at all. Sure he brings goals but he doesn't offer a whole lot else.

In midfield he doesn't have the passing range to play the football we want to play, he could do a good job as a number 9 but Bes offers much, much more off the ball IMO.

This, Berisha > Cahill. Could only justify buying Cahill if we were desperate for more Australian players for the ACL.

I did have a headache putting him into the formation I posted, you're right, but it's Tim Cahill. Just imagine him and his old mate Archie molesting a corner flag together in Victory colours.

He did play as one of the #8s for a few stretches during the Asian Cup, I'll have to re-watch that before I agree with you about passing, etc. Most of what we've seen of him for the Socceroos for the last few years was him shoved up the front with the team instructed to cross it in, after all.

Nah, I wouldn't want Cahill as marquee. I think he's a Wanderers supporter anyway.

That and he's downtrodden the A-League in interviews before. I think he's got less interest in coming home to the A-League than Drogba.

I wouldn't be surprised if he goes back to the MLS. Maybe even back to England. Even at 35 he could probably cut it in the Championship.

WOLLONGONG WOLVES FOR A-LEAGUE EXPANSION!
